There are actual cats in the game.. and they are extremely dangerous as well, especially if more then one attacks.
I look at models and it is a psydog that i'm having trouble with, I haven't ran into a cat yet. for context I ran into them at the chemical plant then at the wild island, I did the mission where you go to the island
Lore wise, Stalkers have tended to fight Pseudo-dogs in the past by looking for the one copy that is actively avoiding direct confrontation with the player, EG: the one hiding in the back, but this does not seem to hold true for the current iteration. My suggestion is find an object you can easily jump on and off of, then just plink away at the copies with single shots until you get one that bleeds. Once you found it, hit it with everything you have because that's the real one. Once its dead, the others will vanish.
Oh, rats? that's easy enough. Turn away from the swarm, arm a grenade, count to 2-3, chuck grenade at your feet while running. That should ensure the fuse timer goes off right about as the swarm passes over it while chasing you,

I will say it is satisfying when you time a grenade perfect for a rat swarm. Got one perfect shot by bouncing it off a sewer wall as I ran through the doorway.
