Is the Game Supposed to Be Pitch Black?
So, starting from the tutorial, everything in the game is so dark that if there's no light source or I'm not outside, I literally can't tell if I'm walking into a wall or what. I can't see anything.

I've already cranked up the gamma, brightness, and all the usual settings, but it's still so dark that I have no idea where I'm supposed to go.

Is this an intended feature of the game, or am I dim and just missing some setting or option somewhere?

Not sure about other platforms, but you can click the middle mouse button ( scroll wheel ) to turn on your flashlight on PC.

It is intended to be dark just like areas without cities or working infrastructure near by. As others have said you can use the flashlight "L" or Middle Mouse Button which sort of helps but it's very much the scary game type of flashlight. Made in 1916 and not reflective of anything made after the 1970's.

When I started the first time gamma was set to 44 making even indoors, like the bar for example, so dark I had to use a flashlight.
Turning it up to 50 resolved it thought.

Yeah, nah, having a flashlight changes everything. This is literally my fix, it can really be that simple...

Honestly the flashlight is pretty bad, you see better without it

same problem, i don't have a light, and if i have one the keybind is broken since it doesn't do anything.

keybinds seem to be a problem in general, my melee is still "V" even though i tried rebinding it and it doesn't show up anywhere as bound to "V"

The game is way too dark. The flashlight is the most anemic flashlight in computer games for a very long time. If an NPC is standing inside dark area outside of 20m range, I can not see them only their muzzle flash as they shoot me. The engine is 100% bugged as muzzle flash does not light up its surroundings or the actual shooter, everything is pitch black.

the flashlight key is actually broken, needs to add a section to the config file manually:

in C:\Users\...\AppData\Local\Stalker2\Saved\CustomizeControls.cfg

add these lines in teh first section as the last entry, before the last "struct.end" the number in the brackets should be one higher than the entry before that (i think it depends on how many keys you rebound) pick a key and replace the "B" with whatever you like.

[11] : struct.begin
DefaultID = -1
bIsPlayerMappable = true
PlayerMappableOption = Flashlight
InputActionSID = Flashlight
Key = B
OldKey = L
Triggers : struct.begin
[0] = EPlayerActionInputTrigger::Tap
struct.end
struct.end
