Upgrading weapons and armor
I have a bunch of pristine stuff in my stash, wondering if I should start upgrading it, and whether I should focus on one weapon/armor or a bunch at once?

Also a question to commentators, where i can fully upgrade SSP-100M SIRCAA

Upgrade weapons of your choice. I went with Dnipro and Saiga. As for the suits - play like original Shadow of Chernobyl - use them till they reach 50% condition and sell them off. If you explore, you'll find more suits than you'll ever need. Suit repairs and upgrades are unreasonably expensive.

Focus. You'll never have money to upgrade everything. Early game, pretty much nothing is worth an upgrade (maybe skiff's pistol), as you'll find better stuff.

Just mod the game. Too many bugs, too unbalanced even after 1.0.3. Game is an unfinished mess and gsc marketed A-life for years and couldn't deliver. halfofsin (Халва) most armors and weapons wont be able to be fully upgraded until youre in Yaniv or Pripyat and some not upgraded at all until then. Unfortunately this system sucks because you will get some weapons well before being able to upgrade them even once. With all of the bugs and balance issues, this game feels bad, and even though ive played through 2 times, I cant in my right mind recommend anyone pay for this.

stick to skifs pistol, a GP37 and whatever the best shotgun you have is, with expansive ammo until you get a saiga. maybe take a sniper as well if you feel like it.
upgrade the GP37 and skifs pistol, then once you get a Saiga you can upgrade that.
use AP/Shotgun Slug for armoured targets (go for headshots), and hollowpoint/expansive for monsters and random humans.

I'd recommend the Saiga as main weapon and some really hard hitting single shot gun (snipers are really a thing for longer distances) OR a robust SMG (Buket S-2 is lightweight, robust and uses light and cheap ammo while having good damage). In former Stalker games I used assault rifles - but they don't cut it in Stalker 2 IMHO (can't quite put my finger on it). They get the job done eventually - but not as good as they should.

While Skifs pistol can get good results I tend to use a Rhino revolver.

For armors - I switch those and never do upgrades until I get my hands on an excellent exosuit (ruby / diamond / Shturm). Until then it's saving a ton of money :D
For weapons I use for a longer time I do the upgrades for maintenance cost reduction + armor piercing.

Not all technicians can upgrade everything. But the ones in Rostock and Yaniv can do most.

Hint: Once being able to leave the starting zone, you are free to go everywhere. So you can go there early, I'd suggest Rostok->Yaniv in one tour, just stay on the roads and ruunnnnn ;)

Skif's pistol is dirt cheap to upgrade and repair, it has no weight, ammo is everywhere and its extended mag can be found relatively easily. Plus you are forced to carry it around no matter what. So might as well take advantage of it.

A fully upgraded, silenced UDP will take you long miles against lightly armoured humans and zombies.

yeah and I lovehate this.
I love the weapon itself and understand it has lore justification as his memorable personal item he won't get rid of.

But at the same time it removes any point in using other regular pistols.

UDP is good but I use it pretty much only for novelty

A second pistol holster would be awesome...

Do not blame Skiff's pistol/Makarov finally not being ♥♥♥♥ for "No more 9x19 pistols except for one named variant that is probably an ending sequence gun anyways"

Never blame a gun that isn't ♥♥♥♥ for other guns being ♥♥♥♥/entirely missing. Or you end up like a dead space player suffering the shame of reloading an earlier save to dusts off their plasma cutter because all the weapons they had can't even reach a tentacle weakpoint.

Granted, even the "Still a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ weak makarov" signature player version in CoP was called "overpowered" by the fanbase because it had something like, more durability? slightly less weight? And THAT one had 9x19 that endgame could unlock burst fire on, and mail order desert eagles you could buy at the first hub.

You want to upgrade armor as a priority as upgrades increase your defensive stats such as elemental resistances and physical damage reduction. Weapon upgrades on the other hand mostly improve how the gun feels and handles. You absolutely want to upgrade weapons as well but if you are just starting or short on coupons, I would always upgrade decent armor over weapon.

I have no issues with its balancing, but I do wish I could leave it in the storage box.
I understand why I can't, but I still wish I could.

Also you've pretty much challenged me to do a no Plasma Cutter run of Dead Space you naughty person

Which armor to upgrade though? Currently what Im doing is using what armor I find until it reaches 50% durability, sell it and use a fresh one. Haven't repaired a single armor set as of now on Wild Island

Saiga is end game. Like late end game. You upgraded nothing before this? or did you have a secret source?

I didn't bother upgrading any rifle until I got the G36, and the only upgrade I did on the shotguns I had before the Saiga was swapping to slugs.

Remember stalkers, that using the AP Slug barrell upgrade on a shotgun doesn't stop you using expansive ammo on the shotgun. Eliminate the middle ground and pick expansive if you think monsters are there, and use AP slugs and go for headshots on humans.

The saiga isn't 'late game' either tbh, sure it's not early, but it's definitely not late. It's mid to mid-late depending on how early you spot one and take it from an enemy.
