Bolts aren't supposed to be used that way in the first place, so I doubt they even considered it. In the original trilogy, the bolts had no interaction with the world except with the anomalies (and base collisions, of course).

That being said, having the option to distract ennemies with bolts is actually a neat idea.

"Stealth" barely functions in this game. You can somewhat silently kill enemy humans with headshots using a silenced weapon, but often times someone WILL spot you or the game WILL spawn enemies with your location already known (they are instantly aggro'd to you on spawn and know your exact location).

EDIT: To be more direct, Bolts thrown alert enemies, and they'll spot you sooner than if they weren't alerted.

I just use a silenced pistol instead of bolts. Seems pretty effective at distracting enemies.

This is a great idea that I never even considered. Bolts were used as a reference to the 'stalker' film to detect anomalies, but this would be an awesome evolution of their use to distract enemies (especially mutants)

i went into this game assuming the overall threat of the zone would ramp up but on vet difficulty i still feel like mastercheif conquering the map. i want to feel under threat and insignificant but the game forces a plot armored hero play-style that is so out of place for the zone. i just want to pretend like i cant just wipe a base ezpz and sneak for a while.

I only tried it on boars once but they seemed to ignore it.

used a bolt to distract the zombie on the Roof on Noonlight. Haven't tried it with any other enemies yet.

wait a sec. my most recent save is right after taking that exact zombies head off for a quest. why did you need to distract him?

you actually shouldn't distract him. you'll probably encounter a softlock later on if you do.
If they aren't aware of you they do react to them. Pretty much the same effect as your stomach growling or walking over piles of trash. If they are already trying to kill you, barricade yourself in a room and toss bolts by the doorway, don't know if it helps but it's what I do when outnumbered.

I actually tested this extensively and have some info to report. Now bear with me, this has taken a lot of effort and time so just hear me out and believe what I'm about to say because I promise it's true.

If you throw a bolt at a bloodsucker point blank at the very moment he becomes visible, you will probably die. Probably.

Also, if you try to share your sausage with a bloodsucker, he will actually eat it, but only after he eats you.
