I know this is necro, but that's just not true. Range stat matters significantly on AR's, for example, where you will likely be shooting at 50+ meters when in the open. It's especially noticeable on low-pen AR's, because the enemy armor will absorb a lot of the already reduced damage. Also, certain shotguns with low range you will notice that they're super deadly up close, but even just a little range out the damage is drastically reduced even if most of the buckshot collides due to low spread (We're talking 1-shot to 3+shot range, depending on range)
