Deceive the deceiver quest

I'm wondering if the quest is bugged or if there is something I'm just not getting.

I failed to pick up the special gun from Sashko which you can then use to lure Zakhar out the Slag in order to kill him. Or I accidentally sold the weapon.

Anyways I went to Zakhar and got "find another way to lure Zakhar out" since I failed to do that with the gun. I went to the barkeep who told me about his stash. I went to the stash and it was empty. There are no additional dialog options with Zakhar and no clues how to continue this quest.

I have the gun but I never even met zakhar, he hasn't spawned for me

I thought my quest was bugged too, then I checked his stash at night and he was there.
idk if the quest was actually bugged, or if your intended to check the stash at night...

You just have to go to his stash at night and he will be there but i dont know if it has to be a certain time for me he was there at 11pm

i just came to post that I randomly found him when going past his stash whilst returning to slag heap. I wouldn't have noticed him but he just started shooting at me when I walked past the container. It was just after 9pm in-game time.

I missed the gun during the quest too. All you have to go to his stash spot at night (i went around 2100) and he'll be there. Its in a shipping container NW of slag heap.
