HDR seems to be completely broken
I'm using an Alienware AW3423DW Oled Monitor with HDR 1000 enabled, 5800X3D AND RTX 4090.

When enabling HDR in the game settings, the image becomes weird, colours all washed out and super dark. I've tried to change the In-game HDR settings and i still haven't found a fix to make the game look great.

No problem whatsoever with Windows AUTO HDR or Nvidia RTX HDR.

Thoughts?

Agreed, not using Windows 11 though.
I've been using this as a guide:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44LSSlK7afw

The defaults seem to be pretty accurate and the best settings to tweak are Brightness (in standard and HDR settings)

But based on what you said, if it is washed out that could mean that it isn't activating properly.

I have Auto HDR off in Windows and no problems in game. Also have it turned off permanently because RTX HDR works much better with everything that doesn't natively support it.

One thing that I've noticed though is that if you are in the settings menu it doesn't look like its using HDR as the whites have a different tint to it, but in game everything seems fine.
I also don't have the best/True HDR monitor (Dell G2724D)

Maybe try doing a reset of all the display settings and then starting from scratch. Could be a bug causing things not to apply correctly.

Idk, because for me in game native HDR works perfectly. To follow above comment, I have auto HDR off in windows 11 as well, only leaving HDR on and ran windows HDR calibration tool to report 1000 nits .
I'm using the same display and the HDR works just fine for me. vibrant colors, inky blacks and blinding whites.

My auto HDR is on, and my monitor is calibrated to 75% contrast.

Looks like crap for me on an LG C2. Blacks are crushed and colors are oversaturated. I'm going to try RTX HDR or SpecialK to see if those are any better.
HDR is absolutely broken. When I enable it, the entire screen gets more grey/washed out. RTX HDR is the way to go with the Nvidia App as it looks fantastic with it.
Update: I updated Windows 11 and now In-game HDR looks completely normal and awesome.
Similar issues here. HDR dun du nuffin. Probably software thing, time for me to buy OLED

I tried out and switch back to sdr because its looking better. Most games can't handle HDR correctly so it is the most time off.
Although HDR is pretty great in this game, I tried RTX HDR, set brightness a little lower to 48, and oh boy do those nights get dark! It looks so nice!
Make sure RTX HDR isn't applying the filter over the top of the native HDR. It produces the same result on other games where I've had it happen.
So, I've been constantly changing the HDR settings as I play since release, while also checking out the Reddit posts about the HDR settings (I'm on PC Windows 11). It was driving me insane, crushing blacks scenes or washing out in others, nightmare. One thing I figured out is that PC default HDR settings are different from Xbox default HDR settings. Not sure if things have changed since release, but the difference is PC default brightness is 50 vs Xbox's 45 and PC HDR brightness 25 vs Xbox's 20. So I figured on PC there was at least one default setting screwing things up. I believe the culprit(s) are Brightness and HDR brightness.

Also, it appears that the gamma setting when in HDR mode only effects hud gamma.

Finally I have settings that I'm happy with in both light and dark scenes. So, for what it's worth, my PC in-game HDR settings recommendation is...

Contrast 75 (default)
Brightness 48
Gamma 41 (personal pref)
Black point -4 (default)
White point (display's peak capability)
HDR Brightness 20

I wouldn't recommend touching Black point or contrast. Hope this helps someone 😊
windows 10 hdr in tihs games has crushed blacks and over sturater colors. is it the same on windows 11?
