I also see no point. 0.5kg heavier and it has actually 1 Mod slot less (laser sight for CQC). Have you figured it out?
This is just assumption, but perhaps the stats are better on the Veteran when fully upgraded, or perhaps the gun is quieter.
Also, the guns have the same stats when fully upgraded.
Normal Vintar also has this update. The both reduce the same % of weight, so while it makes the difference not 0.5 kg, but 0.4, it is still the same gun that is heavier.
I'd say the key word is unique. I get why people jump to "better" but that just depends on when you get it. It's a free weapon with attachments. That's better in some ways.
Like the scoped AK you get right at the start, durability is through the floor to make it an early game weapon, otherwise I would never need another gun for the entire 90 hours of play. That would not be fun at all, and make every other 5.45 pointless. A games gotta game.
