The Economy is broke
The wear and tear cost more to fix then the money you get from loot and missions.

If you disagree, just wait.

You will notice it after a while.

Yep, it's totally broken right now. It looks like the game designer couldn't decide if he wanted to make SoC (no repairs - go and find a new suit) or CS (repairs are here). Right now ir looks like glitching trade is only one way to deal with this problem,

Well, I disagree, I'm 18 hours into the game.

Still in the first area, sitting on 40,000 coupons, everything modified that can be with a ton of stuff I can still sell from my stash.

It definitely hurts when armor fixes start sitting at 20k a pop.

40k? LOL.

40k is enough to fix SEVA suit (20k) and fix a Fora (10k), everything else will be spent on ammo. That's it, no more 40k. So you are broke with your 40k unless you want to use your leather jacket for the whole game.

I was in the same situation as you. I thought why are people complaining about coupons I'm swimming in them. I actually moved to Garbage with 50k coupons but that is when things starts to get worse.

I found much better armor suits, currently wearing fully upgraded Guardian of Freedom suite. 2% damage cost 900 coupons to repair. If you do not constantly repair it, you come back with 60% durability and it costs like 20k to repair it. You also start encountering a lot more enemies in quests that will deplete your ammo, your healing items and the more enemies you fight the more chances are you will have to repair your armor. There is currently no way to break even just from quest rewards, you will be losing money. Sure, you can haul yellow items back to trade and get into positive outcomes but it is slow and boring due to how low your carry limit is.

I'm pretty sure the current cost of repair system is broken as it seems to take into consideration the value of the item your are repairing as a determining factor for how much it cost to repair 1% of durability. This absolutely does not make sense in a game where your main progression is to find "expensive" weapons and make them even more "expensive" by adding upgrades to them. This is currently unsustainable unless you spend hours running back and forth selling every peace of gun you find and even then it is barely enough.

I suggest to anyone who struggles with coupons to use the exploit to sell weapons for their full value (value from your inventory screen) rather than 30% traders offer (this is rough estimate (weapon with inventory value of 31xx usually sells for 105x at trader).

I wear heavy Merc armor. Sold 3 lighter armors, and still have 7 (I think) armors in stash, numerous weapons I got from military in Cordon, haven't sold a single artifact.

In previous STALKER games, I only used SEVA suit for special occasions that required it, never for hunting bandits and mutants.

Works fine for me, yeah i run low on money sometimes but search for artefacts and armor and guns that arent broken and sell it, then you should be fine.

18 hours in, and still in the first area?

Ok congratulations. You decided to grind a single player game for EIGHTEEN HOURS to afford basic things XD go you I guess?

Reeks of lies or, well lies.

I will finally leave to Garbage in an hour, so I'll see for myself.

I know from reading previous mentions of ''broken economy'', that people who posted those were still in the Lesser Zone.

Lies? Whatever.

Yeah, 18 hours exploring every single area there is. I didn't just complete the main mission and moved on. I don't see it as grinding or why anyone, like you, would have any problem with that.

Basic things? I have SPAS 12, G36, AS Val, SVD, HK416...

I didn't grind anything and took like 20 hours in the first area. I'm at 45 hours or so and only on the third area. If you take your time and explore each location and grab each stash its easy to get that amount of time. I've never grinded for artifacts once.

No offense, but this is kind of a ridiculous take. Not everyone is trying to zoom through the game; some of us enjoy taking our time, exploring, scavenging, and generally just existing in an awesome world. Also, we really need to move away from constantly being at each others' throats and throwing around insults for no reason other than that someone has a different take on something than you. Calling him a liar for playing the game differently is way out of line.

You might as well just do the main quest until you get alot of money
Early game I was exploring alot and I was pretty much broke all of the time. It wasn't until I got to Wild Island where I really started making money doing quests and now I have 69k and a ♥♥♥♥ load of weapons. I think the problem right now though is because there is no A-Life system there is no reason to explore or really loot people because they aren't carrying anything valuable.
