So I just discovered the Deer Mutant.
Its special ability is... spawning 3 other mutants 5 feet behind you. Not a psi-effect. It lets out a cry and actual mutants just pop in behind you.

This was a deliberate design decision. This was proposed, tested, and made it into the final build.

This is a perfect example of the design philosophy that went into creating the player experience.

You would think they would care more.

Modders can't add in anything like that dude, only build upon existing features. If it's absent, there's not much modders can do.

I love modders just like anybody else, but people have to stop assuming modders make whole new games from the ground up. They don't.

Are you new to STALKER or something? Look at Lost Alpha, GAMMA, Misery and Anomaly (just to name a few). Complete overhauls of the older games that change and add features, and that was made my modders all on their own. GSC is supposed to be releasing official modding tools for STALKER 2 eventually.

Same happens near the start when you get the Rescue Gloomy mission. Grab the stash from the downed chopper and 3 enemies appear out of nowhere (dogs are already there.

Got killed by enemies so reloaded and thought I would get the drop on them and carefully moved round to the opposite side of the chopper but nothing barring said dogs. As soon as you enter the chopper for the stash they appear.

You mean like how it was estabilished that bloodsuckers were semi-legendary creatures that only came out at night?

This game takes place almost 20 years after first ones storywise. Things change and there is SIRRCA, wont spoil it for you

they do only come out at night,during the day u can find em sleeping in some houses and during emissions...if u fight some during the day its either a mission spawn one or u are near an artifact/bloodsucker cave.

They can indeed mod it to make more sense, they can make the mutants PSI illusions. Still dish out damage but the corpse will fade into oblivious. That makes perfect sense from a design perspective….another mutant capable of messing up your noodle.

Personally I'm not opposed to the IDEA of the mutant deer than can psi-call other wildlife. Its like a controller but to animals. What I am opposed to is their spawn range and placement. The animals do legitimately just APPEAR OUT OF NOWHERE and I found it more frustrating then entertaining because, as OP says, they just kinda appear right behind you. This might make sense in a forest or dense brush, but I fought them in an open area, making it obvious that they were just appearing right behind me instead of running in when they were called.

I LOVE the idea of the mutant deer, but I feel like this could have been done better.

This mission broke my hopes that the game will live up to the expectations of its community. These mission was such a shameless illustration of how bare-bones and broken AI spawning system is. The system tries to masks this by spawning enemies behind your back outside of your immediate LoS, however, during this quest the moment you exit the dialogue a wild boar and 2 dogs are spawned right next to you and starts attacking. When you kill them, another set of boars and dogs is spawned and further away down the slope the deer spawns too.
