The game is great it is 100% Stalker 2.
While it has some performance issues at times.
Don't listen to anime fans trying to dis this game. They won't know what is good if it landed on their head lol
Also, ignore these forums, they are not representative of the average gamer.
there are issues with it.... as expected (alot of stalker feeling lol)
Only problem, controller support is EFFED UP. Controller does not work at ALL.
No problem M+K. SO if you are planning to play with a pad you may encounter issues.
Game is Stalker, not much surprises there for what i've seen so far.
Mind you, i'm around an hour and a half of gameplay, so take that with a grain of salt.
Can't say much about it in the long run ....
For series fans, though, it's the GOTY so that is why reviews are polarized so much.
There are some things I'll point out though from what I saw from others, if your computer isn't fairly high end you're going to have poor performance in game, even if it is high end you're not getting great performance just decent.
For some people the game was CTD/freezing completely, I can say that after 16 hours I've had one Crash to Desktop and it while loading a save (so no real loss). So If you have both a pretty good computer, are not unlucky, and enjoyed the STALKER series you will probably enjoy this.
There are some things I didn't like, timescale/bullet spongeness which there are ALREADY mods for.
Bugs I can live with - Stalker has always been buggy.
Optimization is very poor but I can make it run at close to 60 in 1080p with some sacrifice.
Currently the major problems I have with the game:
- Keybinds are bad and you're bound to mess something up if you try to rebind them. Flashlight is hardbound to L which is ridiculous, or you have to activate it through a radial menu. On controller it's simply R1. Melee is hardbound to V and if you assign V to anything else, you don't have melee. And god forbid you don't use WASD - good luck making controls work.
- Controller play actually feels surprisingly great, but aim assist doesn't work at all, which is a death sentence in a game like this.
- Enemies spawn in very close to you. You can't properly scout out an area because a place 30 meters in front of you can be empty but have a group spawned in once you approach it. It's ridiculous and immersion-breaking. Old STALKER games didn't have this issue, at least not to this extent.
What IS good:
+ Atmosphere
+ Gunplay
+ Monsters
+ the Zone
I think this will be a great game in about a year or so. Playing it right now is an exercise in frustration.
If you can't, wait for some patches.
You can also use middle mouse button for flashlight.
If you can survive the jank and bugs, then the game is good.
It's a situation like with VtM or other games.
It has soul, the hearth of Stalker is there, but it has a lot of problems.
It works for me, though I did expect better from the devs.
All in all the release is bad.
If you are not fan of the previous bugs, and buggs can piss you off, I recommend waiting.
