How the hell do I view my quick access items without having to use one!?!?

I can't just constantly remember what I have equipped where and that part of the hud always fades away and I have to either just use a random thing or literally bring up the pause menu and close it again to see it again. There's got to be another way.

You can turn off the fade I think, or open the radial wheel, holding E, or Q will also show it and just let go before it uses an item.

I've looked, trust me you can't turn off the fade. And yes I've figured out the hold technique. So dumb. The radial menu should make it show back up but it doesn't.
