I had the same thing! I think after entering the caustic tunnel after picking up the emitter is when the saves got corrupted.
Found a solution. Dont exit the tunnel via the caustic sewers backtrack all the way to the entrance and it shouldnt corrupt your save.
I lost like 2 hrs and am so lucky that the game still had an autosave from before I completed "A Light in the End of the Tunnel". thankfully I found this thread and it saved my game, cheers!
Thank you so much for posting this, I thought I had a completely different issue because I moved past this point and went to a completely different area.
There is definitely something wrong with this section of the game. I think I found the exact location. When you start stepping down the stairs to go to the tunnels after you grab the emitter the game does a really hard freeze for a few seconds. After you pass through the two steel doors after the button the lock and you cannot backtrack so dont pass that point.
I have lost a few hours of progress but at least I don't have to restart my 40 hour character from the very beginning.
I died from several bloodsuckers during the liquidation of the Bravo group, after that any saves stopped loading, so this happens not only in the tunnel
