This isn't said enough..
However, I'm a little disappointed too so far, although I'm only in early part of the game.
I agree with you that it would be good to have more features such as being able to climb over things that in real life you could climb over.
I would also like to see more objects in the world that we could interact with, such as being able to move things around and "invent" ways to solve problems, such as how to climb onto that building? How to reach that spot? etc. This could be used to create "emergent gameplay". There's not enough objects and physics processing in our contemporary games, the focus in recent times is mostly pretty wallpaper graphics and story/plot/character development.
Destructibility would be fun too, if only we could affect the environment by being able to break things, such as the rotten old fence in our way, or smash that door or cabinet, etc. Again this could mean more emergent game play. The game is mostly just pretty graphics and anomaly and storm effects.
Now, STALKER 2 as we know, has had a few impediments to its development over the years since the previous games, not least the war, and I certainly won't blame the devs for this. The game is what it is and I for one am grateful that we have another STALKER game to play.
It sometimes feels nostalgically like the previous games and other times it doesn't - I guess its a new game based on those previous games rather than a copy.
It does mostly feel like STALKER. Things that distract me are:
Spawning of squads nearby and at trigger points. I hate this like crazy. The previous games solved this by having them spawn hundreds of meters away and then travelling back to their patrol location on foot. That way they might engage the A-Life mutants along the way, or the player might encounter them at other times, and this all provided some unpredictability and sense of "life" to the game. This is definitely not like the STALKER we all knew and loved!
Why do flesh and dogs keep spawning on me every 5 minutes, out of nowhere? Why do they use such repetitious rush tactics? Okay they're just animals, but still, I shoot them they should sometimes run away, right? In the previous games they used to patrol certain areas, but in this game they spawn from nowhere on triggers. I'm hoping the game A.I. will pick up as I progress forwards.
I have found only two artefacts so far and have not got any great gear from the lesser zone, so I feel that the enemy NPC's can be pretty tough and it feels a little unbalanced. I expect that will change now that I've moved out of the lesser zone.
Other complaint are the key binding issues. For some reason when I equip bolt or knife or grenade I cannot move forward with my bound key (I use right mouse). Cannot seem to solve this despite playing with .cfg file. As you can imagine, not being able to move forward with any of these equipped is really frustrating and dangerous, and detracts from the fun factor a lot. Maybe someone can tell me a solution, or I will post another thread.
I figured out how to get the lamp working in the .cfg file, having to go into the dial menu and selecting it every time was a real pain!
Yeah, swing the knife a few times and watch stamina fall. I feel this is a bug.
I really miss the mini-map! It was great in the previous games. Including it would have greatly increased the nostalgia. The compass is clumsy, IMO.
I don't like the English and the accents many of the NPC's use. Not sure what they were aiming at, but I miss the native language being used. It was somehow mysterious and added to the atmosphere in the previous games. Now I feel some of the voice acting is not very well done and the jokes are silly. The accents bother me, they seem to be a mixture of things.
The greener foliage makes the game feel more like FC somehow. I don't see the look fitting in well with the previous STALKER look, but as I said, its a new game, not a remake.
Atmosphere is super important in STALKER and sometimes it has it, but sometimes not. A few times I thought "yeah, now it will go all STALKER on me", but then it kinda lost the mood somehow. Maybe with the bolt issue that is distracting me.
The only cope I can offer is that the way to think about STALKER 2 HoC is that its a new game, not a remake and is only "based" on the previous games. Time and events has separated us from those awesome games.
Anyhow, there is always something to complain about in early period after a game is released. They will fine tune it with patches.
I also want to say I am enjoying the story and some of the side missions. I'm getting to know the guns and learn about the zone and the area and the factions. I enjoy the atmosphere, especially when it gets it right. The moral dilemmas are interesting, although simplistic.
Mostly I'm enjoying exploration and looking forward to hunting for rare artefacts.
Like is this a mandela effect thing? They're from another universe where STALKER 1 was a highly polished AAA flagship title or something?
Eh.... no. If you are winded after three to five swings, you need to go and see a doctor because there is something very wrong with your condition.
And a knife and an axe are two completely different weapons. Like apples to oranges
This is still a great open world game.
Surely not i mean you know, only a 20 year difference.. silly him
Was supergood, i tried it. But i fell of man, as much as i wanted to like it, it felt just boring and uninspired. Still have the memories and i loved Metro.
Now its off to Indy and POE2.
No shade btw. dude, they did what they wanted to and tons of people love Stalker 2. Just didnt hit for me. And its not like id rather have it the other way.
