Telling friend from foe?
Advanced stalker players do you have some way to tell friend from foe before you get close enough and start getting shot at?

Several times i already see a shootout where i have to get close enough to see who shoots at me to know which one is the actually enemy. Is there a way to tell with out getting in the face first? (The hud does not display red dots before you get shot at)

Same. If I recall correctly there were UI elements in the old games that indicated the person's friendliness when you look at them.

There was literally a name that popped up on looking at people and threat-identifying binoculars, like yeah! You're completely right. It was never an issue in the original games and idk why they made it kinda weird in this one.

Crosshairs turn green on mine.

your crosshair goes green if its a friendly, works well for me

I'd they shoot at you then they are not friendly, and if they don't then maybe they are friendly. It's that really easy, because they have no issues shooting at you. :steammocking:

You could spot different factions by different gear and guns they had, the models looked alike, they were "uniform" one could say. But thats old games, nowdays every NPC needs to have story and customised gear so you know **** who is who.

I think, if you target a friend, the crosshair gets green.
If it's an enemy, it doesn't. But not sure, if that's all.

in UI settings theres a setting that will change crosshair color if you aim at a friendly to green and if you aim at an enemy it will stay white

That's how "Shoot first, ask questions later" got invented.

I remember that in the original game the factions somehow looked distinct. They also had visible badges (unless that's a stalker gamma addon).

There was always the minimap in the corner telling you how many stalkers were in the area and would show up as visible dots (enemy dots would be hidden until directly spotted).

Called it sometime ago, but the minimap/pda design was clean, we didn't need this bethesda compass that is hardly an improvement at all. (Also rip binoculars, you shall be missed)

For me the crosshair color indicators only show up if the NPC is like 10 meters away or less, if that's correct for everybody else and I'm not just talking out of my ass then I'd say it's hardly useful for identifying threats in this game. Doesn't help that, yea, outfits mean nothing now and you can't tell who's who at a glance.

The original had a detected human counter within I think 50-60 meters around the player.
Friends or foes got counted even if you did not see them. You could see a number eg.20

So that helped.

And the detected contacts could be checked within your pda for their attitude towards you.
But you still do not where they are only they are close. Maybe above, below, behind a door etc.

Visually detected enemies also appeared on the minimap as a red dot for a short while.

And most importantly you could use the binocular to scout ahead and that will easily detects humans, mutants so you could plan your approach better.

That is the reson why are no Binos in this 2024 version of Stalker If you use Scopes you can see that there nothing... you get closer. Still nothing. Youget 15-20 m close and enemys or allays spawn... after the first wave the will spaw in you back or like 7m away. The spawn system is so broken. If you want any emersion don't play till fixed. And don't tell me it got broken sortly before lunch. There so many signs that this game is far, far away from its gold pass. Will stop playing for now i hope they get things done in the next half year or year.

shoot first and ask questions later, a tried and true policy.
