People too used to CoD. lol... You can't expect them to love the "less is more", when Activision has been throwing movement mechanics at them non-stop. People like us who played the original Stalker know. We appreciate the simpler nature of things.
Metro is also linear af. So, no. You're barking up the wrong tree here. This has multiple paths. Multiple endings. Freedom to explore just about everywhere. No two experiences are the same. We could go to the same marker at the same time and you'd fight mutants while I fight a bunch of bandits.
That you can't appreciate it is beyond me, but you're entitled to your opinion. Even if it's wrong.
I played the original STALKER too, I also played the original DOOM. Doesn't mean I'm eager to play an FPS where you can't look up or down. What a weird thing to have a superiority complex about. Grow up.
You can turn the yellow paint off. I did. Also turned off my reticle, because I don't need it. Immersion ftw baby!
Alright then boyo, YOU go make a game during a war, lose a bunch of people and see how well YOU do.
It's not that the game gets a pass. It's STALKER. We KNOW what we're getting into. It doesn't need to have a billion flashy or fancy mechanics. It's functional, it has the elements we expect, and you die to just about anything. You call it generic, we call it classic. And if you want to talk "generic", METRO was generic as hell. So don't even start. I've played Metro. The mutant AI in that is no better or worse. Most of the ground-based enemies run at you like lemmings in Metro games. Here, they hunt. Stealth tactics, pack tactics. Shoot n scoots from soldiers and bandits. They toss nades to force you out of cover.
Generic... Pffff... wouldn't know generic if it lobbed a brick at you.
Try the "Optimized Tweaks" mod that's up on the Nexus Mods site. Honestly made the game waaay smoother in my experience.
I just killed 4 mercs using a grenade, 1 tapped 3 others in the head, and magdumped into the body of another 4.
I got shot 6 times, 2 applied bleeding which was extremely easily fixed.
This entire thread is a literal skill issue, combat is fine.
it was never promising to have super realistic milsim shooting.
it was never promising to have fast paced arcade shooting.
it was promising to be a stalker game with combat that feels like a stalker game, and that's exactly what it did.
except maybe the first stalker game, combat in that game really did suck.
