Compiling shaders every time?
It is normal when compiling shaders every time you start the game??

No, that's not normal. A small indie studio doesn't know that before requesting to recompile shaders, you should check if there really were any changes made to the system configuration or game/video driver version since the last compilation.

Its not normal, and a pretty straight forward fix that will probably get patched in the near future.

It's rather annoying, added with the random CTD, trying to get back in takes minutes.

Here's a modification that disables shader compilation

If you need to update your video driver or an update comes out on the game, this mod should be temporarily disabled to create a new shader cache

I have to wait actual 15+ minutes every time I launch the game and it still has horrible performance with constant stuttering that is nigh unplayable.

1. Create or edit the file "Engine.ini" in the %localappdata%\Stalker2\Saved\Config\Windows\Engine.ini
2. Place the line

[SystemSettings]
r.PSOWarmup.WarmupMaterials=0

3. Save and enjoy

Works like a charm! No more "compiling shaders" after the initial pass.

m.2 ssd drive. It's painfully frustrating waiting for it to compile every launch
Same problem here. I’m playing on an asus ally x, but still shouldn’t take 10 minutes to start up each time. Dragon Age compiles much more quickly after the first time. Something is broken with Stalker.

The game is still stutter mania, even if compiling shaders on every launch. It ran smoothly on my first launches (high/epic+dlss balanced) but the last few launches it performs extremely bad in the beginning, then gets good fps etc. after several minutes of playing, even after reboot. Just updated my gfx drivers too. Not impressed yet.

why complain about loading shader, all game should be like this, you even cant wait few second for have better experience, what do you want, only complain

GTA5 and RDR2 compile shaders on startup, thats why they take so long to load. They just dont tell you they're doing it.

No, haha, it should not be. Since it takes forever to load usually, depending on hardware. I gonna use as example a little different pre-caching but it is also shader pre-caching just not from UE5. On GNU Linux games usually pre-load cache, each game, it's a separate Steam download, looks like a game update but is actually shader pre-loading. I was thinking the games will run horrible if I disable this. So I just tried it and did not experience performance issues but each time I was on a new location somewhere the game would lag for a few seconds due to loading in those shaders perhaps and then smooth out. Shader heavy UE5 games i.e The Finals, STALKER 2 is a kind of new phenomenon and a pretty bad one as usually it is in case of UE5. Because this phenomenon appeals only to a specific group of hardware where shader pre-loading is extremely fast. So that said it is not a few seconds for everyone, it's actually a few minutes for some people who still have fairly decent rigs for this year even if low end :)

Those are not comparable. They do not even take half as much time as UE5 games do it.

They screwed up, hot mess, unplayable, not season pass version, have 4080TI 32 GB, 16 GB ram DDR5, SSD, Intel Core i7-14700F 2.10-5.40 GHz
