Why does this game look so bad without Upscaling?
So I usually try to play all my game without DLSS or any up scaling. In most cases the picture is less burry, more crisp,...etc.

However in this game the image quality is terrible, with artifacting everywhere, jagged lines everywhere, ...etc almost as if there is zero AA applied.

Is there a setting causing this or will I have to enable Upscaling to get a decent looking picture?

use dlaa its the AA with none of the downscaling then upscaling its native.

I'm playing from GoG and I have this exact same issue and I'm looking all over for any fix.

Do you have an AMD card by any chance?

I'm not talking about performance but more so image quality without any upscaling applied. My specs are Ryzen 3800x, RTX 3080, 16GB, and I'm playing mostly mid settings at 1440p.

After tinkering with it. I noticed you have to atleast enable TAA otherwise everything looks like a jagged mess.

Yup, without upscaling it looks terrible. It's very back to front.

Well not really, it seems that put traditional AA (TAA) in the upscaling settings, so I just went over to TAA which technically is not upscaling and my image looks much much better.

I am using TAA now and it looks much better, so I will stick with this for now. Still performance over all is mid, and just like the original stalker games the more NPCs around for harder you are hit. the starter villiage reminds me of the clear sky base lol.

theres no way taa looks better then dlaa, taa in all games will blur things like powerlines and things that are fin in dark zones too you will see them temporal aa updating, dlaa is the bast aa on the market hands down.

I did not say TAA looks better then DLAA I said it looked better then turning all upscaling options off. I don't like is DL anything, so I'm using TAA for now. Maybe I will change later or dig into the nividia settings to force some decent AA but I despise upscaling tech so if I have a chance to not use it I will choose not to.

Use DLAA if you can. It doesn't lower the resolution but fixes trembling image that game produces so nice.
GillianMC Nov 20, 2024 @ 2:09pm
cuz the game doesn't force any AA, use one of the upscalers in the AA mode

dlaa doesnt have up scaling its why its concerned the best aa its native with dlss built in ai aa

I guess I still don't like the reliance on A.I., but I see your point. Anything that is not scaling my image quality on the fly I'm fine with.

Either way issue has been solve, just use TAA or DLAA
Karlack26 Nov 23, 2024 @ 5:33am
Use TSR over TAA and set the resolution scaling to 100%. TSR is a improved TAA for UE5 that also has up scaling. But if you set it to ultra quality with 100% resolution its rendering at native but with less ghosting and blur then TAA.
