*SPOILERS* Trick To Keep Intro Loot

When you get to the final scanner location in the intro, before placing the scanner - you can place your inventory loot in the safe that you access through the window.

After the titlecard, if you follow Richter it will take you back to that location first thing - and you can grab your stuff. The only thing that seemed to not stick was the advanced AK found in one of the research labs and the AR style gun, but the double barrel - normal AK and all ammo/consumables were able to be relooted.
