why unreal engine 5
first stalker game ai and npcs used a very specific technology from their own engine that allowed them to create some unique behavior patterns that were staple of the series in the past. the list goes on and on. So many studios now days developing in UE5 that itself isnt a bad thing on surface but there are several concerns i have. Unreal games often have performence issues. thats why i havent pre-order the game.

because this engine had ready-made tools that developers needed

you think the first stalker games didn't have performance issues on x-ray engine?

Because it is 202x and not 2010. In-house developed engines are massive drain on time and resources while perfectly suitable, or in case of UE5 much superior, engines are already available on the market. You can see that even big studios are slowly but steadily abandoning in-house engines because they would rather focus on developing story and gameplay mechanics than work for years on engine that might never be good.

UE5 is great engine that pushes visual fidelity to new heights while running reasonably well. It is much better than UE4 that suffered from massive stutter issues that were almost impossible to resolve without massive amount of work on developer's side. UE5 mostly fixed this problem and provides visual spectacle no other engines can even get close.

I feel like it would’ve been pretty good on source 2. I don’t mind UE5 though.

Game engine has nothing to do with the behavior of the AI. However the developers decide to code the AI, is how the AI will behave.

creation engine is bethesda's proprietary engine and isn't licensed to other studios

Cryengine would be the best out of those 3.

cryengine is trash, it does nothing ue can't do except it's much harder to develop on than ue

why would they use ue4 when there's ue5?

frostbite isn't licensed out, it's proprietary
