will there be bayonets?
the one thingi always felt missing from the original stalker games is bayonets.
it just didn't make sense to me; you're in a zone infested with dangerous mutants and zombies that charge at you and no one ever thought that turning your gun into a spear to fight them without wasting ammo or when the mags run empty?

it's especially wierd since half the game's weapons are soviet military surplus that all have bayonet lugs - AK, dragunov, sks, also there are plenty of western weapons that can have bayonets! basically all AR-15 systems and shotguns

don't forget that your direct competition - the Metro series already has bayonets and they work great

and no just switching to the knife shouldn't be enough, they are short, low-powered and require time to draw. not to mention the massive advantage if you get in close combat with a human
please make bayonets an available attachment so i could skewer snorks and dogs in honorable melee combat

Fair point, using bayonets in the Zone would make sense. I never thought about it before.

With STALKER 2 actually having a quick melee button (which we see in the Deep Dive footage), the same action could be used to stab if the weapon is equipped with a bayonet.

Yep, that's an interesting idea.

Equipping a rifle with a bayonet would possibly boost the speed, reach and damage of the quick melee attack, at the cost of a moderate increase in weight of the weapon.

i would not mind this at all plus its another small reason to put in the mosin nagant a rifle made in such numbers that its very easy to get a hold off cheaply.

I hadn't thought about it before either, but that would be really cool!
im glad people are liking my idea, hope this will get enough support for a response from GSC, i dount doubt it will be difficult to implement when the game is nearly finished. but surely this effort would be worthwhile

99 % sure this won't be implemented in the launch version. However, perhaps GSC will consider adding new items and perhaps even new mechanics – such as bayonets – as part of the planned DLCs.

I hope that one of those DLC's will have a black market weapons focus so that we get stuff like the mosin nagant and the SKS and for those 2 a bayonet attack would make a ton of sense and from there having a bayonet attachment for the previous weapons be a no-brainer.

yeah that would be awsome.
new melee weapons would be great as well, like sledgehammers and axes, and hey, since artifacts are already used to creat the guass rifle and it's ammo. why not also have the ability to modify melee weapons to be on fire or electrified?
yeah i understand it's similar to Borderlands so obviously it shouldn't be impossible with guns, especially considering we already do have an upgraded system for it.

but attaching a fireball artifact to a hammer, exploding a bloodsucker with it upon hit would be pretty awsome

I've had this question for a long time: Why is the melee aspect so under-represented in many post-apocalyptic games like STALKER? I mean, for gameplay purposes, let's pretend STALKER is post-apocalyptic.

The advantages are obvious: Melee weapons don't require ammunition, their maintenance and construction is simple. Pair them with a shield, and you have effective protection against many mutants. Because mutants are an aspect of many, many post-apocalyptic scenarios.

The bayonet is especially effective, since it's usually attached to a gun: Means that for those times where you want to conserve ammunition, you can just stab those Rodents or Blind Dogs in the face. If you run out of ammo, you are still not disarmed, but remain a dangerous enemy in close-quarters.
I whole-heartedly approve of the idea of having bayonets in STALKER.

Gravity-altering artifacts could play an especially interesting role for upgrading melee weapons, but I imagine that applies to all types of weapon modifications.
