With STALKER 2 actually having a quick melee button (which we see in the Deep Dive footage), the same action could be used to stab if the weapon is equipped with a bayonet.
Equipping a rifle with a bayonet would possibly boost the speed, reach and damage of the quick melee attack, at the cost of a moderate increase in weight of the weapon.
I hope that one of those DLC's will have a black market weapons focus so that we get stuff like the mosin nagant and the SKS and for those 2 a bayonet attack would make a ton of sense and from there having a bayonet attachment for the previous weapons be a no-brainer.
yeah that would be awsome.
new melee weapons would be great as well, like sledgehammers and axes, and hey, since artifacts are already used to creat the guass rifle and it's ammo. why not also have the ability to modify melee weapons to be on fire or electrified?
yeah i understand it's similar to Borderlands so obviously it shouldn't be impossible with guns, especially considering we already do have an upgraded system for it.
but attaching a fireball artifact to a hammer, exploding a bloodsucker with it upon hit would be pretty awsome
The advantages are obvious: Melee weapons don't require ammunition, their maintenance and construction is simple. Pair them with a shield, and you have effective protection against many mutants. Because mutants are an aspect of many, many post-apocalyptic scenarios.
The bayonet is especially effective, since it's usually attached to a gun: Means that for those times where you want to conserve ammunition, you can just stab those Rodents or Blind Dogs in the face. If you run out of ammo, you are still not disarmed, but remain a dangerous enemy in close-quarters.
I whole-heartedly approve of the idea of having bayonets in STALKER.
Gravity-altering artifacts could play an especially interesting role for upgrading melee weapons, but I imagine that applies to all types of weapon modifications.
