I mean, when did stalker soc came out?
I know in a way what you want to say, and i think that this Depressive looks is one of a reason because of the old graphics that the older stalker Games had. (For sure they still looking good)
The picture with the g-lord is also muddy, rusty and the guy himself is most likely a special agent which just dropped in the zone from heli or whatever and that's why "clean".
Picture with "shiny walls". That's just lightning effect from this electro gun on top of that it's a ruin and in the background you can see what? Exactly a storm -> rain -> wet surfaces.
Kinda like how in metro exodus the weapons would get dirtier and start jamming more often if you did not clean them.
Or world of tanks where the tanks would get muddier if you went through water or snowier when you where fighting on a snow map.
So considering that we still have 10 months to wait it would make sense for GSC to create the perfect condition uniforms first and use them in promo trailers.
They'll completely bury any valid criticisms like you've been making in this thread, because it'll be something new and shiny to sink their teeth into.
It pretty much happens to all aged franchises these days, I know STALKER 2 won't be an exception. I like to think that the developers for these games are just as interested and passionate about the game like you are, devils in all the small details, but they just get wrecked by executive meddling and prevented from actually putting the time into making it good.
Microsoft will be meddling, and I'm pretty concerned the end result won't be anything like the originals, visually or mechanically.
Mods might fix it, eh? Hopefully AtmosFEAR and the like come back with a vengeance. I just hope their planned stuff like DLC and skins don't disrupt mod development too much. I'd hate for any overhauls to stop working just because Microsoft decided to release some Halloween themed skins one October or something..
i didnt even notice this until you pointed it out! everything is way shinier then it should be. im 100% this is a deliberate artistic direction, not an engine limitation. presumably they are using Unreals PBR material system which means all this shineyness came from roughness textures that had to be created. they arent just engine defaults or done accidentally somehow. they probably had dozens of art reviews where some creative lead or manager said "that surface isnt shiney enough, make it more shiney. we want the textures to pop and the lighting to really show itself off".
but the thing is, im willing to overlook this. it still looks good, just a little off. rust, dirt, weathering, etc. are present on many surfaces. maybe not enough, but its not that clean overall.
i would be more concerned about mesh and texture density. its high, which means levels are small and compact. not quite open world, more like tomb raider or last of us or something like that. i expect the level design to be small hubs spiderwebed together, which means combat encounters will feel more like arenas, then a naturally inhabited world with unpredictable encounters. im expecting linear action FPS gameplay from this game (more like rage then metro). heres to hoping i am wrong though!!
its called reflections.
You're ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ right!
