Really curious to see how the old locations are going to be represented since a lot of the original maps where very canyon like to keep the player in a confined area.
STALKER 2, if true to the original IP (book and movie...) then the locations can always be shifting on you, and think that would be really fun to experience. STALKER 2 as a 'reflection' of old STALKER series locations. but, re-arranged in a time-space anomaly sort of way.
And Curious, did I miss some news? We do know it is a "seamless map" now?
Even if they hadn't, would you expect anything different? Games were doing it before SoC, it would be laughable if they separated the Zone into different maps with loading screens in (hopefully) 2024, no?
The original trilogy is old. I don’t think that the changes in location of locations will be explained. Just a new canon. The location of some places is closer to the real world. I like it.
And on the game page it says that the world will be seamless
It's there in the game's description "EPIC NONLINEAR STORY IN SEAMLESS OPEN WORLD"
Not going to watch entire 46 minutes, but the "intentionally vague" hand-drawn map has at least a few original named 'regions' but these are relocated from earlier game geography. As I mentioned, perhaps the zone is shape-shifting? Red Forest is to the left side of map, Great Swamp to the right side, and Prypiat is top left to name just a few.
For me it doesn't matter too much the zone layout is changing, besides, I'll role-play my own anomalous reasons to justify this morphing map. If this happens to be 'new canon' reason for the new map, then I guessed correct :D
Dev likely have entirely different reasons, the map also appears smaller, so fewer defined locations compared to the earlier games. Budget and time???
Holy, this hand-drawn map looks and feels like maps you have in the Thief games. Hand drawn and may or may not be accurate.
Not much I can share here. But definitely the map will consist of both old and new regions and locations.
