Is it made on Unreal 5?
Most of them run clunky on my PC.
Is this one of them?

Yes, unfortunately, it's made with Unreal Engine 5. It's a shame because games made with it tend to have a samey look, unlike games made with in-house engines which have distinct styles.

Yes UE5

And your rig is fine, UE5 games were just poorly optimized so far.

Sadly I think Stalker 2 will be one of those games.

Yeah, while the game doesn't look that graphically demanding, there's always the possibility that it will end up poorly optimized.

It will furtherly enhance the nostalgia effect.

Back in the days, I used to play SoC on a crappy notebook in 1280x720 resolution or so.

Absolutely.

And while I agree with you with the looks of the UE, there's a lot of room to polish it so it won't be that obvious. Also, writing an engine from scratch is a whoooole lot of more work so I understand when devs just use a well established engine :D

But when devs use an already existing engine and it's just poorly optimized, there's no excuse for that.

sad... i could see by the looks of it. guess i'm skipping this one. i decided to skip lots of games made on UE5 because they look bad, specially because they are made for 4k and they downscale it to 1080p, and if you play on 1080p, the lights and shadows will have a lot of tiny dots on them. they only disappear on 4k...
i don't know why but i'm not playing it. the only good game i've seen on UE5 is tekken and maybe fortnite.

Across the last few engines you could tell if it was an Unreal game based entirely on how glossy everything looked.

the problem with UE5 is the downscale to 1080p

it should be used in films only. in games its a terrible choice.

Check out Talos Principle 2, it was made with UE5, and it looks really good.

It doesn't look as unique as Witcher 3 or Cyberpunk 2077, but something like that style for STALKER 2 wouldn't be bad.

I agree though, I don't like this over-reliance on UE5, cause games tend to look a bit same-y. It's even worse that CDPR ditched their Red Engine, Cyberpunk 2077 has such a unique and stylish presentation, with extremely dense and detailed environments. Try to make something like that in UE5... (Well, we'll see with the next CP game.)

Actually there is a perfectly good excuse, budgets, time=money, and good technical skills to optimize games really well is not as common. That's why so many new releases are poorly optimized, but tend to smooth out with patches (more time).

Hey!
Yes, it's Unreal Engine 5. And to me it seems like your PC is well prepared for the game. But I don't know what screen resolution are you using.

"Most of them run clunky on my PC." pairs a 4070 ti with an i5 12400f, could it possibly be that your massive bottleneck might be the issue and not the engine?...
