Imagine that, the game has been announced 3 years ago. There's been zero raw gameplay. Shouldn't that set off some alarm? Even for the most die hard of fans.
They let some people play on different venue's and events but didn't allow any footage. That was probably to show to the public that something is cooking, including microsoft, their financier. They don't need to go to venue's to let people have a taste. They can do it inhouse, it's just all for show. The development of this game has been a borderline scam.
If they manage to pull everything together by september, IF, and if is a big word here, it's probably going to be the bear minimum. If they do release a buggy and badly optimized game, which I am expecting, I can't wait to hear how the simps will run to justify that.
Actually we are pretty confident in what we have got with the game. That's why we travelled around the world showcasing not the screenshots, not the gameplay but the playable demo. I can't get your point about all of this being just a show.
We needed some real feedback and we had it. We wanted to show you that the game exists and we did it. As mentioned in the original post, we receive both positive and negative comments and decided to take more time to deal with negative technical aspects.
And about the raw gameplay — be sure you'll have it. I understand your concerns, but we have time to prove you that everything will be allright.
Well, considering how much time, money and effort we spent to be able to go around the world and actually showcase this demo — that's definitely not what can be called "free playtesters".
Then why didn't you simply release it on the net like normal? Or do something like a beta test? It comes to the same thing, it had to be a controlled environment where people weren't even allowed to take pictures because there are problems with it. Problems that shouldn't be seen by the general public other than the attendees.
Because to release it publically is not just "download to steam — release". The demo should be properly polished and tested on a wide variety of specifications in dozens of different scenarios. It's like releasing a small indie game.
For now, we don't have this man and hour resources. We are focused on delivering S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl and it is our main priority. I guess we can agree that releasing the main game is better for you and for us.
Exactly what I'm talking about, we're saying the same thing here. It couldn't have been released to the public because it wasn't polished enough. I repeat: It had to be shown in a controlled environment because there are problems with it. Problems that shouldn't be seen by the general public other than the attendees.
That was a small slice of the game which, of course, was not so polished because it's not the final product with the final quality we are planning and you are expecting.
And after that demo, people shared their comments and opinions. After that was a Strider Trailer and more gameplay trailers to come this year. So I can't agree with you on the point that we haven't showed anything.
So yeah, we are almost on the same side here. I was triggered more to answer the first part of your comment :)
I can't say "there were problems that shouldn't be seen". It's really more about man and hour resources. If we had enough of these — I guess there wouldn't have been any problems to release it globally, well tested and polished.
But unfortunately, we are limited in man and hours, so we did our best to create this demo at least for showcase to get the general feedback and prove that the game exists.
It's the combination of all the delays, the total time this game has been in development, what has been shown in the GAMEPLAY trailers and then what the demo has actually shown.
Shame demo is not available to public , i spend...over 2000 hours on stalker games , vanilla , moded , so many replays i had across all 3.
id love to give my feedback/try it.
Its one of first original PC games i ever purchased (shadow of czarnobyl) , i own all 3 phisical copies and replayed it with most mods , mysery , CoM , CoC anomaly , Gamma , and many between i dont remember anymore.
I kinda expected game to be delayed , and its fine. I wish all GSC crew well. And cant wait to play it when its released.
