Did you really ask, to the developers even, whether STALKER 2 will be better than a glorified fetch quest simulator?
Then it will follow the way of the original trilogy, with anyone making their own version of the game with mods.
Yes, I am aware of that. This mod has received significant attention though, and I am curious of the developer's perspectives on this.
I can only say about myself. Back in time I've used mods only for graphic improvement and new weapons. Other mods are just not my cup of tea.
Because they are making anomaly known, not STALKER. I want STALKER to get popular, not some extremely overrated, pointless walking sim that's nothing like STALKER in any shape or form.
If people will come from fad following Youtubers looking to exploit the new cool thing they know nothing about, then let them stay. I'd rather have a tiny community that knows the ins and outs of the game in question, enjoy it regardless without needing to change and beat it into a completely new thing to like it. To hell with the popularity.
The guy who makes the Space Screen Shaders addon is brilliant, he has really transformed the game visually. Then there are excellent weapons addons, better A-life and AI (like no see-through bushes) and various other stuff.
The story is rather bare-bones, but the immersion factor is great.
If I was to do a comparison, I'd do it with another standalone mod called True Stalker. That one is a lot closer to the original Stalker, and has a proper story with voice acting, cinematics and branching paths.
