English dub sounds terrible

Yeah, not sure if it's laziness or trying to appeal to a broader american audience. It just makes the tone of the game seem wrong. I'm assuming people would probably say to just play with the Ukrainian dub with subtitles. No thank you, that's just a cop out. Same thing turned me away from chernobylite.

I don't mind, it adds to the jank, OG triology doesn't have the best acting either. (and that's why some golden lines were born like "get out of here staker" and "come in, don't stand there" :D

If they went for a slavic accent, we would have seen the exact same thread with "I don't like this slavic accent, it's too cliché, give us normal english". People were divided like 50/50 about this.

It shows one of the limits of the players' feedback before release.

For a full immersion, the canonical language is ukrainian with subtitles.

Honestly, I never played the first 3 with English dubbing (it's a bit fuzzy, can't remember if it did have it or not). I left it native with english subtitles.

Nothing breaks my immersion in the setting harder than everyone speaking with an american or English accent when not appropriate for the setting, same thing was done with atomic heart and some TV stuff which i thing really sucks ass.

Even if they had western voice actors do fake Ukrainian/slavic accents it would be much easier to hold the suspension of disbelief than just hearing american accent, Metro games do it right by having the english dub have the accent even if at times it can sound cheesy depending on the actor as it dont bring me out of the game every time someone speaks unlike this or atomic heart.

Idk how anyone can defend it as it just sounds so off putting, its like if a game instead of using real gunshots for the guns audio they used airsoft gun noises instead, everytime you hear it you get taken straight out because its not believable and dosent fit.

Honestly what'd i wish they'd do is just get actual Ukrainian VAs that know English to do the English dub. A'las I'm doubtful theres that many that actually do unless they pay them to do more than one voice

The tone of the zone is given only in the original language, although ukrainian speech was also very suitable, but english, with a slavic accent... well, I don't know. I watched the series Chernobyl, the action would be good, but the language.. something strange.

Not true, I played all three of the originals in English and the tone was fantastic. I don't know why people keep bringing up Chernobyl. Yes it was a great show but it has vastly different themes to the games. I don't want to pretend everyone is speaking a different language (a la MGS3) just because games companies and tv/movie studios are too afraid to record English dialogue with Slavic accents.

This would be ideal but any voice actor worth their salt could do a good job. It is acting after all.
