While I understand why people have your opinion, and I agree with it to a certain degree, it's difficult to expand on previous games and introducing new mechanics while still keeping it within the same series.
Introducing major new mechanics that alter the game too much wouldn't make it Dungeons 4, so they continue the story and introduce some minor mechanics and stuff without making too many grand changes.
Noone ever said this game is trying to be Dungeon Keeper.
Abd WFTO's narrator is Richard Ridings who played the Mentor in Dungeon Keeper.
-heroes can have bases in underworld
-there are passive skills that are unlocked by doing side objectives on the campaign and then you pick 3 before a mission (skirmish or campagin)
-new enemies in the dungeon (for instance manavores eat the mana resource and grow stronger from it)
-gemstones (rare drop in the dungeon worth 5k when thrown into the treasury)
-3 tiers of stone, you start able to dig tier 1 and must upgrade snots to dig 2,3
-brimstone, one click explosive to quickly dig out sections of the underworld, just watch out for creatures caught in the blast
-complete revamp of evillness and research
-side objectives generated during the map that reward with evillness
-inconspicous crates hidden in the overworld that contain dungeon resources if you can find them (small amounts tho) like gobblers and toolboxes, as well as creature cages with free units
i hope they give the option of a zoom out at least similar to dungeons 3
