That's not a good comparison. Flatpak and such don't add a virtualization* layer that causes all sorts pf problems and degrades performance. Wine does, and consequently, so does Proton.
*I know Wine is not virtualization but more of a "translation" layer. It's just easier to deacribe it that way for an audience where most people don't know or care about the difference.
