What is different?
I played Dungeon Keeper 2 many, many years ago. Spent a number of hours enjoying the game.

Fast forward to 2011, and I purchase Dungeons (1). It was absolutely terrible, slow and clunky. A horrible game.
2013 brought Impire - Not great, but enjoyable nontheless.
Then 2015 brought War for the Overworld - Excellent!

Somehow Dungeons 1 was "good enough" to spawn 3 further games - But looking at the gameplay, and the people streaming, what has actually changed?

The graphics look the same as D1, the game play still looks incredibly slow - What is making this game so popular to have a 4th entry, and what makes the 4th entry actually worth playing?

Dungeons 1 was a completely different game despite how similar the screenshots appear. In that one you were basically setting bait for heroes, trying to lure them in and satisfy their needs but not having them overstay their welcome and walk off with your stuff. Was more of a problem solving game disguised as a dungeon keeper sim. Dungeons 2-4 are literal Dungeon Keeper clones tit for tat, so if your into the older DK2, you would probably enjoy Dungeon 3 or 4 more.

D4s on Gamepass if you wanted to spend the dollar for the trial 30 days.

I wouldn't say a clone of Dungeon Keeper, so far War for the Overworld is so far one of the only good clones out there.

This serries (except Dungeons 1) has taken inspirations of Dungeon Keeper but build a lot more around it, like a real overworld to explore and conquer RTS style. Last time I checked that part was never in Dungeon Keeper, or its clone War for the Overworld.

Still all great games to play though, and because this one is a nice blend between dungeon managment and RTS I have to say it has been more fun to play then Dungeon Keeper or its direct clones.

Should have tried Dungeons 2 and 3. Way more better than Dungeons 1.

They are absolutely not "tit for tat" clones of Dungeon Keeper.

The Dungeons games are a hybrid of Dungeon Keeper and RTS gameplay. You are sending your minions to the surface frequently in order to fight the heroes directly. Dungeon management is less intricate than in DK2 but there's a focus on setting up traps for invading heroes.

I agree that WFTO is more of a Dungeon Keeper clone, but the devs have no plans on making a sequel 😞

The latter part is not correct. Brightrock have said that they don't plan to expand the current WFTO game but that they'd like to revisit that world later. But right now they're working on finishing Galacticare.

Always found it weird/funny how the "Dungeons" series is the one that has an Overworld gameplay component, while "War for the Overworld" doesn't.
