Map mode: mini-game with the police - what do you think?
We're working on a map of the US and designing a mini-game with the police. The player must constantly control the speed of the car and slow down in time if they don't want to risk a police chase. We want the map to be a huge and engaging part of the game, not just a time-eater.

Thanks for the update! First - great to hear the game is going fine in development. As a fan of muscle cars and "driving into a sunset", I hunt for any attempts to make a "road game". It is still a largely unexplored genre in video games - where not only driving mechanics and car chases/races matter - but also the story along the road, the style, the atmosphere. So any attempt to make an interesting new mechanics, including the map, is fine with me. Please, just try to not to loose the vibe of a long, lonely trip, by making the minigames too difficult/too repetitive. I understand that both - driving slowly or engaging in a police chase - will have their prices. Again - this is great, unless it overshadows the story or the atmosphere.
Best of luck with the work on the game! We are waiting patiently.

Thanks p53 !

Yeah, I get your point here. I was a little bit reluctant when discussing and then implementing this idea into the game, for the same reasons you are mentioning. Fortunately, at the end this mechanic is quite optional, as you can cross all of the map without using it or using it sporadically when the situation demands it. On the other hand it is quite engaging and fun when the moment is right and all in all I really liked it.

Only found out about this game today, looks fun and racing part is definitely fun. I just wish we could drive between places instead of it just being map movement.

What about a MAJOR-game with driving across America with story interjected, instead of a visual novel with driving interjected?

I know that doesn't fit your vision of the game, which is a shame because that's what I was hoping for from the store description.
