Do you remember Two-Lane Blacktop? Easily one of the best road movies ever made, a forgotten gem from the 70s.
It's about a race between two cars (modded Chevy 150 and Pontiac GTO) through authentic Route 66. The movie is mesmerizing, has a great soundtrack and cinematography. But to be honest sometimes is hard to follow, bc there's not many dialogues and heroes motivations are unclear (especially the girl played by wonderful Laurie Bird). J. Hoberman got it right: "Two-Lane Blacktop is a movie of achingly eloquent landscapes and absurdly inert characters". But give it a try - after forgiving its faults you'll fall in love with it!

Also: it's Wikipedia page includes one of the funniest paragraph ever published on Wiki: "Esquire magazine published the entire screenplay in its April 1971 issue, and referred to it on the cover as "Our nomination for movie of the year," though it failed to include any explanation for this decision or any critical commentary, and also failed to review the film when it was released that fall. The film opened and disappeared so quickly that at the end of 1971, Esquire included its own cover prediction as part of its annual Dubious Achievements of the Year Awards."

I love every word of this paragraph <3
