Northern Journey

Really want to love this but the combat is atrocious
There's so many things I love about this game. It has a janky charm that is wholly unique and loveable, but I just keep running up against frustrations with combat. Being stunlocked by the elk and having health drained from 100 to 0 in seconds, to fighting the rock golems in a tiny area where I get hung up on rock geometry every 2 steps...

Is there something I'm doing wrong?

With the elk just run away from it really, i don't think it's ever even hit me. The golems and some other encounters are simply quite difficulty, it'll take a few tries to figure out what works and what doesn't.
This isn't the kinda game you can expect to finish without dying a lot.

I've gotten a bit further and Troll Hole was a nightmare. Now banging my head against the 5 shield bearers...

I'm compelled to keep going because the game is really drawing me in, but there's just poor combat design or jank at every corner which is making it a very frustrating experience.

The combat definitely has jank however I wouldn't call it poor, to me the combat seemed very unique and something you have to get used to.
You absolutely can master it but it being very unconventional certainly makes that difficult

There is also a difficulty slider in the settings menu if you find combat too difficult! :)

To fight these guys I would mostly use the bow and to keep moving, don't stand still

I think the combats fine, it's just weird, especially how some parts want you to pick off enemy's very carefully and then with bosses and certain other enemies it's full on SR40 time.
The thing that bothers me the most are enemies that deform when they attack you at close range making them hard as ♥♥♥♥ to hit like the snakes and really any long enemy.
That said I like the combat well enough, it fits the game pretty well I think.

I've gotten a better hang of things but is anyone else getting an input bug when circle strafing with A and W keys? If you keep those pressed, often I can't arm my weapon or fire which has lead to some deaths.

Can't say I can recall having that, a friend of mine played recently too and also had no such issue. I hope you can find a solution for that.
