That nearby piece of paper labeled 'someone's drawings' - is that supposed to be helpful in any way? Because it was just super misleading for me. It looks like it relates to the vase puzzle but I just wasted lots of time looking at it and it doesn't help you find the solution at all. Very frustrating.

Not really, I don't think so. The scribbles don't help at all and the part that's not crossed out isn't part of the solution either. I'm not sure what the intention behind these "hints" was.
