I haven't finished the game yet but I'm pretty close and so far yes it does but it's not really about you. You're just kind of in the world doing your thing while the story of another group of adventurers is going on. The story you do get is just kind of from talking to that group and townspeople for small blurbs of info about them and what's going on.

So if you're looking for story I'd go elsewhere. If you want combat and exploration then this is a good choice.

The "story" in Crystal Project, such as it were, is very vague and indirect, and that's very much on purpose. It very much expects the interested player to determine for himself what's going on, rather than just infodumping about it.

The story mostly happens to the world rather than directly to you. There is some story and lore but almost all of it is told passively through optional NPC dialogue and objects like books.

To be clear Crystal Project is not focused actively telling a story. The meat of the game is in exploring the large open world, finding cool loot, collecting crystals to unlock more classes and using them to defeat progressively more difficult bosses.

The best way to get an idea of what this game is like is to play the demo. It's an excellent representation of what the game is like and contains roughly the first 10-20 hours of the game. All progress transfers to full version of the game as well if you decide to buy it.

I strongly agree with Xaelon. The Crystal Project demo is excellent, and gives you plenty of exposure to the game so you can decide whether or not you like it.
