Then you got two domes who do feature triangles, and two which are spherical. It might be production related, in the sense that different manufacturers prefer or specialize to certain shapes.
The material is not necessarily the same as our glass. It might be a very sturdy transparent material - Dome Keeper is set in a future, so i think different materials make sense.
As for why it is see through, there can be multiple reasons. For one, we are on a month long solo expedition, so not being confined to a room but getting an open space feeling might help keep us sane. Secondly, a transparent material makes it easier to see all threats around the dome. Sure you could have monitors, but they might fail or shatter, so if a good transparent material is available, it seems like a good fit.
