Generally, the gold nodes get bigger the lower you go, so don't spend too much time at shallower levels. But do some exploration everywhere, because the artifacts can really help.
I just did a quick run and engineer upgrades ended at 22 cost drill, 8 cost speed, and no upgrades on carry weight. Drones ended at 16 drones on 180 speed. Start with prospecting meter, grab the scan frequency asap then max out range. Grab power drill from the first supplement and ignore all further gadget/supplements and just focus on mining. Once you have the upgrades, ignore all water tiles so drones don't waste time on it and just focus on mining.
Finished in 22 minutes comfortably.
That's crazy cos you upgrade more than I do and I still can't find the balance. Must be the wrong supplement choices. Most of the time I use the drones and a drilling rig or something although that has limited use really. Mushrooms are pretty good but as you are not going up and down for waves then there is no real way to lay them out to ensure you pass them regularly.
I will try the suggestions here and see how I get on next time.
I found the seed, and prepared a deposit with about 6 gold. After a few days, it was constantly generating gold and the drones kept it clean.
I don't remember if I found the converter, but when I do, I upgrade it to the long, efficient gold conversion.
I also don't remember if I found the iron worms this time. Of course, I upgrade to the most efficient. They tend to keep your drones busy while you do other work.
With all the help, I didn't prioritize carry capacity so much. I dug down relatively fast, because the deposits get bigger deeper down. Maybe less a priority without antigravity, but it worked well here.
I think ultimately, it's about playing to your strengths and avoiding your weaknesses. Maximize the efficiency of your tools, as there is no combat, so short recharges aren't helping you. And find the best long-haul settings for new items you run into. That's the best general advice.
Iron worms are definitely very useful as is lift and getting the drill upgrades and getting lower down faster, though not too deep as i found it slows down a bit much.
Here's to next try!
Did it with a few seconds to spare. Was willing my drones to bring my compressed clusters instead of single units of iron. The last drone did not disappoint.
Man what a relief XD
Congrats! I know the feeling, it took me quite alot of tries too! Now on to the cobalt challenge! ;P
Wow I didn't even think of making superclusters and leaving them for the drones. I always assumed they were just for you to carry.
