It's just placed around the mine, like iron and cobalt. The total amount in the mine should be relatively consistent. You just need to find it. Like cobalt, though, it's in single blocks, so it can be easy to miss. You might be going right past it because your mining strategy is leaving chunks of rock that are hiding it. Anywhere where a chunk of rock is at least 3x3, there could be water (or cobalt) hiding in the center, so make sure that you aren't leaving any 3x3 or larger chunks. If you need a lot of water and just can't find enough, though, there's always the resource converter and condenser gadgets, both of which can produce water for you.

Haha. Yes, the blue resource, which extracts as blue balls, is water.

Yes, but these are good. If it makes you feel better, I have a faint memory of being slow to realize that they were water when I first began playing, too.

I played this game for many hours without understanding the spheres are water either. They look nothing like water. I too could not understand all the things talking about water.

I thought always triangle is iron and square is cobalt till I learned from the challenge Iron 200. I knew ball is water because of the gadget condensator.

To being sincere, I had to know what form is what resource by finding them and looking them in the upgrades. That way, I discovered squares are iron (mainly for the iron challenge), squares are cobalt (for the auto-upgrade that use it to repair the dome) and the spheres are water (for the various upgrades that require it)
