Important note is that I use shoulder buttons for Assessor (using the second stick is awesome for directing bundles, but makes using the face buttons difficult). So the 'grab' button is bound to both 'A' (the default) and 'LT" (left trigger).
You can't use buttons other than 'A' to grab a lot of things as Assessor (resources generated in cellar gadgets, gadgets/supplements while they're still 'in the wall', and the side drills). This also might be true of Engineer, but I've never bothered rebinding them. I'm mixed on this behavior. On the one hand, I'd appreciate consistency. On the other, I do appreciate being able to more easily grab what I want when I have big bundles hovering on the Rig.
For the side drills specifically, after you release the A button to release a side driller where you want it, LT is no longer able to start Assessor's resource pickup. In fact, when you release LT, it activates their orb ability (explosive, reflector, split), which can be really troublesome since it puts it on cooldown.
The A button still works to start Assessor's resource pickup. If you do so, it causes LT to start working again as well.
