Drones and drill rig is the way to start, but all further is mostly luck. If you cant find iron you cant really do something. Best scenario if you find proximity meter in first minutes, it helps greatly
I don't have Iron Worms or Drill Rig, so seems at least one of these is key.
I recommend converter with iron refine supply to get extra iron, and underground terminal so you only go up when you need iron worms.
The converter with Iron refining was my closest run. Underground terminal has also proven helpful. But it seems without the Drill Rig or Iron Worms, I won't succeed yet. tried 8 times :)
I believe I tried this one about 5 times before succeeding, and then only barely.
Hyper efficiency; do not waste a single Iron, do not waste a single second.
Assessor + Droneyard is mandatory, it's very helpful to have more perks unlocked relating to gadgets and rerolling for them etc, supplements too if you can and having the inventory unlocked from the start is nice as then you can see in real time how close you are without needing a water.
The best gadget to start with is either the Prospecting Meter or Resource Converter, with the latter turn some of your water into iron but you're hoping to get the supplement for it and automate that production and let your drones collect it while you're busy. Blasting Charges is a top pick too but you're basically counting entirely on getting a Teleporter as your next gadget and Triple Charges as your supplement.
Upgrade path order:
Kinetic Sphere 1
Split 1
Add Sphere 1
Split 2
Sphere life 1
Speed 1
Kinetic Sphere 2
At some point during this when convenient, get to 7 drones with whatever extra speed you can. For the Prospecting Meter get one extra range and quicker updates, for Resource Converter you only need it automated. Consider getting Kinetic Sphere 3 and Sphere Life 2, but after that you're diving into the mines and not coming back to the dome until you either have a massive pile of 80+ resources and can't find the natural black hole for sending stuff back to the dome automatically or you're on the last wave and it's time to bring your haul back and hope you have enough.
If you went with Blasting Charges and got a lucky Teleporter, don't bother getting most of the Assessor's upgrades it's fine to just get the first three, Speed 1 + 2, and Contact Mining 1. Instead invest your iron into maxing out the Blasting Charges (directional charges) and Teleporter so you can instantly bring your triple charges deep into the mine.
Don't bother going sideways much unless you can directly see a cluster of iron in the wall or detect some nearby. The goal is to dig deeply and greedily fast while avoiding any tougher rock that takes 4+ sphere hits to break through if you can help it. You want to quickly get down to a depth with large iron clusters that will help you reach your 200 total in the least amount of time.
Bring the first two gadgets and two supplements you find back to the dome, but any more is a waste of time you could be spending mining more iron deep underground. You can and absolutely should carry massive clusters of resources with the Assessor to save time by repeatedly firing the group and catching it again from the front.

Good luck.
