About the "plantable seed"
Sometimes you can find a seed in a run that you can drop on blocks so it can grow.
For every one who's wondering how many blocks you need for the tree to grow to max.

It's actually only 3 blocks of materials.

You also can grow the tree on normal dirt but you get only 1 Iron out of that.

(Screenshot coming soon)

Edit: As people meant it below (thanks for the tip btw.) you can grow different materials if they are close to each other.

but each material grows at his own speed.

so far i know you get:
-Iron every cycle
-Cobalt every 3 cycles
-Water every 2 cycles

Cool, thanks.

I tried it on a 6 earlier and it grew 3 before I ended the game out of boredom. Wasn't sure if it was done growing.

Honestly the seed is so slow I tend to just avoid it for now.

i don't really understand how the seed works. Did you plant it on top of that iron or did it create the iron? I usually plant it on empty squares but have only ever seen it grow one head.

Empty squares might be the most efficient play because getting those 3 iron squares mined earlier for like +8~10 iron can be much better than getting like 5 or 6 iron over the next 12 waves

I was thinking about this too, but if you set it on 3 it can actually spawn 3 ore every cycle. I guess it depends a lot on your current state, but if you can get it up and you're not dying I think it's worth growing instead of mining. It takes a while to grow initially too, but I am not sure how many cycles, anyone tracked it?

Work also on cobalt ;)

needs to be dropped on top of an unmined ore vein, it will take root in up to 2 connected veins for a total of 3 and grow that much ore every cycle once it's done

better for longer runs

The seed can produce diferent resources at the same time if you have them close.

Yes, I had one that grew 1 Water and 2 Iron. Someone test it on 1-tile Water/Cobalt and let us know if it produces both that and 2 Iron? or just the 1 resource?

The best tree placement imo is on any resource next to the lift/centre shaft. I confirm that 4 blocks of Iron gives 3/cycle, so placing it on 3 blocks of Iron seems like an alright deal. It takes a few cycles to grow, maybe 3-4, then 4 cycles after that would have produced 12 Iron and you can still mine the Iron its growing on.

It gives much more Iron than the resources its sitting on if you plant it early enough during a Large/Huge/Prestige map run.

next time i play i count and mention it in me text above

I have been able to confirm it can grow all 3 res if the ores are close enough. If you have it on just 1 ore of unmined iron it will still grow 2 iron daily. So, just place on 1 iron + one other and it can be worth; especially cobalt for long runs. Anyone know grow time of water though?

Whelp, on additional testing i found that water regrows every 2 days, cobalt every 3, i have only ever been able to get it to grow one of the rare resources, but i have not had a chance to plant it on multiple of either water or cobalt. It may grow multiple of them if planted on multiple water/cobalt.

it's nice to just plant on a single cobalt close to the shaft so you can get a free heal every 3 cycles

A fully grown tree gives:
  • 3 crops from 2 iron fields
  • 2 crops from 1 iron field
every turn.
There is no need to keep 3 iron hexes under the tree.

Anyone test the roots? I mean theres roots extended about 5 tiles away, if theres resources within those roots surely it should count as growing on them?

There is a max of 3 resources growing at any time, though. The roots extend far, so if you have, say, a Cobalt and then a water 6 tiles apart, the tree can grow roots to eventually reach both resources, but it will only grow 3 no matter how many resources the roots touch.

Keep in mind it takes roughly one cycle per tile the roots spread to, so if you are trying to link up remote resources with the roots, it can take many waves and then it still has to grow normally after.
