To add, for gold it is 1 unit per cycle and will not grow additional until harvested. Be sure to grow it on a resource block in an area you'll pass through each day, as going out of your way for 1 resource isn't efficient. However, you can also just mine the roots and get the seed back to plant somewhere else too to optimize or change the resource it will grow.

I'm also unsure, to add: I tried mining the "roots" and they don't give you anything when you break their block. Further, the "rooting" effect seemed to only go one direction (right). Once I broke the right-most block it was rooted in, the "plant" seemed to stop growing. I did not count the waves after breaking the roots, but I'd like to say it was over 5 waves and I didn't see any change in the structure.

From my (singular) experience, the seed takes some time/waves to grow, and there are a few stages before it is finished. I left the roots untouched and just let it do its thing for a while.

It just spawned a single gold resource for me, though from the text description different places likely affect yield/resource type

If it's the seed I just got in my latest run, you plant it on a resource brick, it then takes some time to grow, but will then slowly generate that resource to be harvested.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Oh, this is very cool, just found a screenshot of someone planting it in the middle of multiple resources.......

Good find, hadn't considered that. Will have to try it out next run!

I planted on an Iron vein that was 5 blocks big, and after it rooted every block and grew to full size it was growing 3 Iron after EVERY SINGLE wave.

I was able to keep going and fully upgrade my dome weapon and keeper equipment that way

It appears to give a max of 3 resources. I planted mine on top of a resource block that was surrounded by other blocks with the same resource and never got more than 3 at a time.

I wonder, does the max amount (up to 3) depend on how many rooted resource deposits there are?

Does a plant rooted to 1 resource still give 3 eventually?

Does more rooted resources affect regeneration speed of the grown resources?

I have only found the seed once so I have a whopping sample size of 1. What's everyone else's experience with the seed?

If planted above a mix of different resources it can also sprout the multiple types. Each 'limb' consistently spawned the resource under it.
Haven't ever found a good spot with 3 different types in a row, but I have seen up to 3 branches if the roots find enough to draw from.

3 is the max. I planted it on a group of 7 gold (iron?) ore, only ever gave me 3 resources per wave. It's nice, especially if you get it early on large maps, but especially on small maps it's probably better to just mine the resources than wait for 3+ waves for it to even start producing.

It also seems like you handicap yourself if you grow it on a resource patch greater than 3, because it takes 1 wave per block to mature. So in my example, it didn't grow fully into a tree until after 7 waves. If it was planted on a group of 3 resources, it would have produced after only 3 waves and yielded the same amount.

I think having it on more than three resource tiles lets it produce every wave. It may have to link to 3 to start producing 3, but it wouldn't be every wave. I had it linked to 5 and it was producing each wave.
