But the people saying sword dome is how the game is meant to be played? Shrug. Typical contrarian nonsense. Play the way you want.
with sword you just end up taking tons of hits because you have to swing it back around or wait to reel it back in. sure you take a few extra hits with laser getting it into position and then burning down an enemy on occasion but not nearly to the same extent
can confirm
This person knows what's up.
The sword has the potential for no damage defenses since it can block projectiles and always rotates quickly so you can defend both sides.
The laser can't not constantly eat damage.
Once a projectile is in the air, that's damage taken.
Sword allows you way more damage and depending on the upgrades, it can handle ALL sides without any downtime because the extension STAB path for sword lets it fly across the entire upper portion of the map. Sword can also innately bounce projectiles, upgrades allow it to reflect things back which negates all the damage. Depending on the build it can either hit all sides each second at nearly max strength which 1 shots waves all tier 1 melle enemies "on hard with feeble mutator or normal" or it can kill nearly any enemy at all stages at melle range in a few swipes, even the final wave enemies cant manage to take more than a few swings with the damage path. Sword is the skill option, both with the stab shot mechanic and the delay between damage due to needing momentum behind the swing.
Each weapon pairs better with different domes and artifacts, which are partially rng dependent. You can run repellent and the damage augment to ensure enemies die in one swing, or you could run fruit and go for ranged defense so you can spec into ground damage leaving them for last and vice versa. Mix it up and give it a chance, sword is interesting because moreso than the beam, the gadgets REALLY can matter.
Unupgraded sword at maximum momentum 1 shots enemies wave 1 and same for fliers? You can stall upgrades into it and boost economy or gadgets if you know what you're doing. Upgraded stab allows you to do a circle in the air and double or triple tap the same enemy at higher tiers ensuring it dies, all with the same TTK at similar upgrade tiers.
You need 1 upgrade for that.
Not how it works.
Enemy health gets subtracted from stab damage.
If your stab damage is higher than enemy health, the enemy just dies and the sword keeps flying with lowered damage.
If enemy health is higher, it takes the remaining stab damage and the stab retracts.
There is no way to double hit since enemies you pierce are dead.
It does on Hard with feeble mutator, maybe I should have specified that since I play with the mutators enabled. I'll edit my post so it is more clear.
Just going to put that out here, most players "statistically speaking" wont play the game on Brutal their first couple of runs "especially if they lose quickly their first times." Even fewer are going to attempt and beat YAFI. Implying it is kind of not conducive to discussions. Have a nice night and good luck with your runs.
Long sword kills anything short range and the long stab can kill a ton of flying ennemies in one go with proper planning and targeting.
Basic strat is to kill flying ennemies first with stab then decimate melee guys with the bouncing long sword when they are close.
But the sword is super easy against small jumping enemies...just make them jump into the edge of your sword =)
So if you have some speed upgrades just swing it from side to side if there's enemies on both sides
