So, now we stick with the lame name, but the game is better ;)
I suppose soo.. I will still be getting the game no matter the name. Looking forward to it.
To trot out a old, but good reference, the last time names really mattered was to the Montagues and Capulets, and that didnt work out to well.
haha, a good one :D
I really liked it. And I loved the idea of something with the dome beein romantik. I don't know.
Dome keeper feels awfully generic as a name, and it's not the case of the game. A guy keeping his dome from Eldrich horror definitly had some weirdly romantic aspect to it. Or at least the name let the imagination run wild. Is he the last alive on this planet, creating a sort of love relation with his last shelter, even if only metaphorical ?
I'll still get the game cause it was fun. But I personnaly think that changing name took away of the outside appeal of the game.
Were as if the game had been called "Dome keeper" id have gone "oh yet another game using the keeper name ignore and move on" as there are so so so sooooooo many games that use the word keeper in their name and i get it it kinda makes sense for what you are doing but still it just lacks personality and doesn't catch someone's eye.
Now i do have to say if a person does look past the name and gets hooked on the picture and the trailer i'm sure they are gonna end up wanting to try it out regardless of name
How unfortunate, some of the best games I've ever played have "Keeper" in the name, like Dungeon Keeper.
Did it occur to you that your experience is completely anecdotal, that perhaps the Keeper moniker is so popular specifically because it has broad genre appeal, and that perhaps this might bring players' eyes to the title? It might not appeal to your need for eldritch drama and mysterious romance, but then again Lovecraft doesn't have a great deal of mass appeal either. Maybe he should have called his short story The Keeper of Cthulhu...
I also agree with "The Sassie Baby Eater" that the previous title matched the games character in a being a unique title for a unique game. The Dome keeper sounds a bit more generic... Regardless of the name I will still enjoy it. Plus I know naming something is not the easiest thing to do.
Wow, I don't understand why a person would choose weather or not to play a game by its title... Especially if they know that they like the game.
"Yeah, the gameplay was fun, but then the name changed, so it sucks now." ..what?
It's not like it was changed to something offensive or something like that, so why does it matter? Sure, it's not as attention-grabbing, but if you've already played the game, why would that affect your decision to buy it?
EDIT: I gotta say, though - thanks to that idiotic exchange, other people have pointed me in the direction of another game that looks really fun as well, though - so.. silver lining, I guess?
