Does the original game run at 60 FPS on the PS4?
I really like how much more readable looking combat is on the original PS4 version. Way too often in this remake I'll have damage being dealt to party members off screen and can't see it, missing a ton of information. If the original runs at 60 FPS I think I'll just get and play that since we can't set this game to use the original combat mode.

I own the original game and can tell you that it has issues with lighting effects optimization, and as a result, the brighter an area is the more likely you are to see FPS drops. Indoors in unlit environments, the game easily hits and holds 60 FPS. Inside Iron Base is the most damaging part of the game, funny enough, as it chugs around 20 or so due to the very bright neon lighting that exists in it for whatever reason (the layout of Iron Base is completely different from this version) and outdoors the framerate is 30 with no real issues. Given the game is a Vita port, this shouldn't be the case but there it is. It could well be it was a curious developer decision and they intentionally capped the framerate in the outdoor environments but I can't confirm because I haven't read into any hack work on it.
During battle there doesn't seem to be an issue outdoors with the framerate either and it generally performs better than during navigation thanks to it being a "separate environment".
The original console game is a lot more complex than Reborn as well, and requires about 5 full NG+ clears to see and do everything thanks to new enemies appearing on further game cycles. It also offers a streamlined "Hunter Mode" to trim the story and remove objective gating after the first game clear, so you can get precisely the same game flow experience as Reborn offers if you prefer it.

Oh wow, sounds like that, combined with the combat presentation would be the way to go. I just hate that difficulties are locked behind playthroughs :/ I want to play the first time on a challenging mode and not sleep my way through. I wonder if it runs better on PS5.

Sounds like the only thing really missing from the first version over this one is Pochi. A big loss, but all the rest of the content/presentation/etc sounds like it's better.

Can you swap X and O for accept/cancel on the Playstation version?
The buttons are already set up that way if I remember right. I love that version. And I still play it from time to time. I would highly recommend buying it!
I found that generally, the original Xeno is quite a lot more challenging than Reborn and required me to actually plan ahead and retool my tanks and make serious considerations about how to tackle the Wanted enemies and, in some cases, prepare for Named enemies to appear during on-foot sections. Named enemies do not exist in Reborn for some reason and so both the challenge and rewards they offered are just sort of absent. Unlike Wanted enemies they could be fought repeatedly because they're just rare random encounters.

I actually don't know for certain about key rebinds, but there are quite a lot of options in general on the PS4 version and it has a much more interesting UI with the ability to designate your own shortcuts for item and skill use, which is not at all present in Reborn either. Losing free best boy 4th party member is an unfortunate loss, but Po-M being playable is also something Reborn has over the original game, so it has two extra characters. However, the Class system in Xeno offers much more flexibility in character growth and skill development, plus the benefit of the Ace Challenge bonuses, which were changed into the skill trees in Reborn when they were originally an extra bonus you earned from clearing game challenges and had their own separate advancement from Class trees which determined what skills a character would learn as well as their stat growths - very important and very useful.

Lastly, Xeno offers an easy, normal and hard difficulty you are allowed to choose from the very moment the game starts.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, why tf am I playing this version then and what have they done to the game? Hahaha, now I understand all the reviews saying this is just an ultra neutered wtf version of the game saying they've done it a disservice.

I'll look for the OG version and see how it performs on the PS5. Thanks for all the info!

I own a ps5 and it runs like butter! So smooth and hardly any load time!
Ah, if you get it on the PS5, you may find all of the issues I described disappear. The back of the game case indicates it features enhanced performance on the PS4 Pro, so the potential framerate caps I theorized may all be lifted.

Alright, I know what I'm doing when I get home! Digital version on the PS5, here I come.
Be careful though. The start is kind of tough since you only have a single cannon with I think 32 shots

Then you should enjoy the game quite a bit, as even the behavior of enemies, especially the WANTED ones is a lot more complex than presented in Reborn, such as flying enemies having the ability to ascend out of reach and require special chips or weapons to hit properly and ditto for enemies who can tunnel or literally out-range you by moving away to extreme distance (MechDonald) requiring the same sort of preparations to properly deal with. None of these abilities made it to Reborn either. The Shield mechanic (hit a covered weakness with the displayed element until it breaks) and its related Destruction bonus (extra EXP, Money and special items) are out too.
Man i loved the whole shield mechanic. I would wail on the shield with only specific elemental weapons and then once it broke go ham with my OP cannon tank

It made having somebody with a lot of relevant damage output like Machine Gun Rush really useful for boosting per turn damage. The Fever mechanic didn't make it either, though I concede it wasn't a remotely reliable bonus and really more of a "if you're getting whooped and this triggers, you just might finish the enemy off with your double damage turn" kind of thing.
You can't forget Vehicle Specific weapons. Like Little Squirt is much better on there than it is in reborn. As well as actual vehicle crafting
Well, you guys were mostly right. The PS5 handles the game at 60fps the entire time, so thank goodness for that. I cannot swap confirm and cancel buttons, and I cannot select the difficulty at the beginning of the game.

Other than that, so far everything is better except for no Pochi :(

They should have just released this version of the game on PC with extra characters.
