The Gardener sucks at their job
I really appreciate the early update, and I know this is early access, but the gardener update is nearly useless at this point.

I'm sure it'll be updated but the gardener sucks so bad at the job that I have to still do all of the watering.

Also, a quality of life suggestion would be to add a vacuum of some sort to collect a specific kind of crop, or better yet, let the NPC collect the crop and put it into a storage bin. I find myself not wanting to collect the crops because it's a tedious pain in the ass.

Another good addition would be to add that they can grab seeds from your storage and plant them. You'd probably have to be able to tell them what goes where by assigning certain crops to certain plots, but that would be nice.

I don't know how deep this game is going to go, so the suggestions might just take all of the players responsibility out of the game, but if it gets deep enough, that would be a nice quality of life addition, in my opinion.

I couldn't agree more, the gardener hasn't worked right since they added it to the game a month ago, and it's not clear if they are working on a fix for it. Mine comes and waters a couple plants here and there then walks away for an hour or so, then he comes back and waters a couple more, then leaves again, back and forth all day long, and by nightfall he might have half of them watered, and then I have to finish the rest

Also at the same time they added the broken gardener the harvest amounts got borked too, and now most all plants are only giving one per harvest and it's really messed it up for gathering enough for production.

I mean we all understand that there will be bugs in early access but these 2 things have been broken for a month now and they are kind of a critical thing, and annoying as hell in what is otherwise a great game.

if they dont do a good job, replace them, some critters work better then others. I have a huge farm and Tucker does a really good job, but I need to help some what.

In the further course of the game, there is the possibility to build robots, which then collect resources. And for the gardener, all you have to do is find the right critter. I have e.g. Poki. Usually quite cheeky, but he can garden.

From what I have read in multiple comments none of them are watering all of the plants which leads people to the conclusion that they are bugged. I don't see the employees at the fish shack, bar, cafe, furniture or clothing store walking away from their jobs multiple times a day and doing a half ass job. So if you are saying that the gardener was designed this way on purpose then that is kind of messed up.

And what is up with this one item harvest now from most all of the plants. I have about 50 planters on land and about a dozen or so in the water and it's not enough anymore to keep up with stocking the carts, and even harvesting around the islands is only giving one per plant. And when the plants are ready for harvest they show 3-4 on the stalks but you only get 1 out of them, that too seems messed up.

I don't want to add another 50 planters all over the island to compensate for this harvest reduction change, this isn't a farming game, I already have a farming game that I play, I don't want to spend half of my day in this game doing farming chores.

And from the new robots I'm getting a ton of stuff, so much so that I had to make a second vending machine to start selling it off, it's way more junk than I will probably ever need and yet now I'm struggling to get enough produce to supply the carts, which tells me that the game is now out of balance, and they need to take a hard look at that, imo.

If they sped up the "collect" action on plants it'd be amazing. Watering plants is so fast and wonderful it'd be great to be able to pick them up equally fast. I love the vacuum tool idea! :slimetabby:

Gardeners work pretty well if you have a garden. Farms may need something more. I was talking to a nice Dunmer from House Dres and he said for larger farms, you may need more than one cat or lizard. He did seem to like how friendship bracelets work, but also suggested certain other accessories.

Haha, gardeners don't work pretty well if you have planters, which is not the same as a garden or farm. I wonder how one chef manages to serve those long lines at the cafe all day long...

Nah. I was using small planters, and when I had up to around 80 or so, Pokee was keeping up with them. I think that's about where she started not getting all of them in a day, anyway.

I have small planters too, about 50. I have Bambo watering, and my planters are in groups of 4 and what I don't get is why he waters 1 or 2 in each group and then skips the rest that are in the same row right next to each other, it seems like the pathing isn't working right with the helper watering can. I suppose I could fire him and try Pokee out, but gardening is his job preference, so idk.

She was skipping around too, but she'd still get it all done by the end of the shift.

I tried out Pokee and it wasn't any better, I guess my farm is too big. It would be nice if these workers would only water crops that need watering. I always see them watering crops that have already been watered.

Also, I mostly have the medium garden planters. (The ones with 3 plants in one planter) I don't know if that makes a difference, but it might.

Pokee was keeping up fine until I had a lot of planters, now I usually water half just to be on the safe side and let him get the rest.

I believe it might? It counts as three planters, so the flag may only indicate that one of the three has been watered, despite all three spots showing as having been watered. So the logic behind it keeps sending it back to the planter, but never throws the flag indicating all three spots have been attended to, only the 'middle'.
And, yes, there have been videos created showing the less than optimal pathing the critter takes. Heck, at the start, they were even watering the FLOATING planters.
