Critter Cove Launch FAQ
Critter Cove has launched! We're a small team without a publisher, but we're doing our very best to ensure that our Early Access launch is smooth and as bug free as possible!

If there are any known bugs, workarounds or anything you'll need to enjoy the game in launch week, they'll appear here on the Steam forums, and on the Discord.

What languages will Critter Cove launch with?

Tomorrow we'll be launching the game in English, Brazilian Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, Japanese French and Russian. We're still working on a German and Spanish translation, which we'll be adding during Early Access. To avoid confusion, we've removed German and Spanish from our Steam page a few weeks back, but just a further notice that it may be a little while before those go in!

I played the demo and my language has untranslated characters and sections, is that fixed in the main game?

Yes, for all languages.

How do I carry across my demo save?

You can simply load the main game and play straight from your demo save without having to mess with any files.

Once you've saved in the full game though, don't try to load that save in the demo! This could lead to your save corrupting. We recommend that you uninstall the demo after you've installed the main game and never look back.

Will you reset save files during Early Access?

Our plan is develop the game in a way where you won't have to restart the game at any point and can still pick up your save during each update. We cannot absolutely guarantee this of course, but we've successfully managed to make our demo compatible with the main game despite the main game having a huge amount of updates, so we're hoping we can continue that process throughout all of Early Access.

How can I contact you for support / feedback?

The best place to hang out for support and help with the game will be our Discord[discord.com], but we'll also be keeping an eye on these forums. You can check out This Thread where we share known issues and some workarounds.

Is this game going to be Steam Deck verified?

We're a small team so we need to do one thing at a time to make sure we don't get overwhelmed. Steam Deck is my personal platform of choice to play games on so believe me when I say this is a priority for us, but we have to jump through some hoops with Steam first. However, I would say that the Steam Deck experience at launch is solid, we've done some testing, I've played on it plenty!

Just tried the demo and there is no way to remap key bindings. Even one or two person teams has this and there aren't many keys to remap in this game. Planning on adding that soon or...?

Great question - I've added a full response to the main thread. Short answer is no, it won't be verified at launch but it is going to be verified during Early Access, and it's very playable on the Steam Deck at launch.

Hey! That's correct you cannot remap controls yet. We'll be adding controller remapping in our first update, it's already planned in and in our roadmap.

Why is one the most important accessibility features not available from the start?

I apologise we haven't got it in yet. You're right, it is important. In hindsight, we should have added it in from the ground up. I think we considered it to be a 'polish' feature rather than an accessibility one for too long. We also planned it in as something to do once controller support was in, but only added any controller support very late into development which delayed it.

So if its something that's required, obviously you shouldn't pick this one up yet, but we are working through this and other accessibility options.

Thank you for the honestly. I'm always curious about why something like this gets overlooked and I can understand that things being about accessibility doesn't always cross one's mind - especially if you personally have no need for it. I mean my dad, who is in his 70s, keeps wondering why stores sell chopped veggies and I have to remind him that I can't chop rutabaga or carrots due to my arthritis and that people older than him exist :D

Anyway I plan on at least trying the game since controller support is available and it should make the game playable for me.

Ah that sucks dude, yeah, you're right, unfortunately it was just an overlook, yeah. I hope you'll be able to play alright and we'll make sure remapping doesn't get moved out from update one so it's marked as a priority.

We're learning as we go, this week we also removed a fishing minigame that was causing accessibility issues we hadn't considered, and we may add that back in as optional later when we have more time to make settings configurable rather than one or the other, so all this information helps us.

Does that mean there is no longer any fishing? Or just that the way fishing is done has changed for the time being?

fishing in a lot of games drives me nuts , but the fishing in Garden Paws is much simpler and enjoyable, as all you have to do its point towards where the fish is on the screen and you catch it. None of the bobbing up and down matching a little bar to reel it in

I like the bar, it's more immersive, sort of gives the feeling of actually reeling in a fish like irl, but I have played some games where the mini game was complicated with weird kb moves and it wasn't much fun.

Just the minigame, and perhaps just for now. Fishing is still in there for sure!

Are the visual accessibility issues (lightning and rain drops) part of the "other accessibility options" still be worked through?

Yes, we'll look at those as part of the priority stuff, too.
