master keys vanished?

had all 4 of my town members give me a key and i held onto them, i did the quest to get the wetsuit BP and filled my back pack with loot, when i returned home i noticed they had disappeared but non of the doors i opened said "unlock" except 1 and by then it would not unlock so i rushed home to double check they where not in a box. and nope there all 4 just gone? any ideas

if you have the keys in your inventory the doors will say open instead of unlock, and yes the keys are consumed when you use each one. I had 5 keys, there were 4 locked doors, and after I had one key left

but i only opened 2 doors and both where only marked as open?
less my game glitched and used a key every time i opened a door under water

there are several locked doors in one building, even if it did not say locked, which it wont if you approach the door with the key in your inventory, it will automaticcally unlock the door and use the key

it must have glitched then cause one of the doors i tried to open i some how just swam thru and ended up opening form the inside after 3 attempts then opened a 2nd door 3 floors up.
im guessing my placement in the water and being on the wrong trigger side must have done it cause i could not get the prompt to show up on the correct side, as i brushed up to the door i just passed thru the middle got the open prompt and hit interact and nothing happen the first or 2nd time so i moved a bit and got it the 3rd

Thank you for the information -- we are working on adding language that lets you know you will be using a key if you opt to open a particular door.

Wish I knew this beforehand. Just went down to the sunken city and must've used up all my keys on hand without realizing cos I thought they all went missing too. Hope you can change the wording to Unlock rather than Open. Thank you!

Thankfully those doors will forever stay unlocked and you won't have to use another key on them, even when they close again after a storm respawns loot.

On the bright side, keep doing tasks for your islanders and they'll give you a ton of keys. Even off six islanders you should get more than I needed for everything I've found in EA so far. Think I have like 8 more in inventory.

I've come across one in a shipwreck - the glassed-in little room atop some of them - but mostly they seemed to be in the sunken city.

Yeah I hadn't opened the one in the shipwreck and ended up using all my keys at the sunken city lol. That's how I realized I didn't have any left. LOL

I have been in all the rooms in the sunken city repeatedly since I unlocked them all, and I have had several villagers give me more keys since then, I now have 6 extra for if I might need them later.

Still an issue, my keys are all gone and i don't even know if its a bug, i lost them somewhere or they opened some doors.
This is getting more and more and more frustrating tbh.

every time you earn another 3 hearts with a villager you will get another key from them, I actually have 30 extra keys now and dont need them to open any more doors.
YOu say your keys are all gone, but how many did you have in the first place, yes keys get consumed when used and you will need about 8-10 keys to explore every where possible now.

I found indeed some open doors, so i suppose i used them without noticing.
I was just afraid to lock me out from something or be forced to kick out citizens and get others i don't want to "farm" those keys.
I thought i get only one from each (i am kinda lost in exploring not progressed very far citizen-wise).
