Critter Cove Demo FAQ
The demo for Critter Cove takes place in the first few hours of the game. We launched the demo months ago now, so keep in mind that is missing tons of QoL updates, bug fixes and performance improvements.

Will I be able to continue from the demo into the main game?

Yes -- if you make a save file for the demo, you'll be able to transfer it across for the main game so you won't have to replay the start of the game again if you don't want to.

How much of the game does the demo include?

We've tried to make the demo as generous as possible to give you a taste of sailing, diving, farming and let players spend some time with the starting characters -- but it's still a very small section of the overall experience and there's plenty of mechanics and experiences we haven't shared yet, along with a huge chunck of the world.

If you've not played before, we think the demo should provide at least two hours of playtime, though you might be able to get through it faster I've you've joined us for a playtest before.

How long will the demo be live?

We plan to support the demo for the immediate future. As we make more and more updates to the main game and the demo becomes less of a real showcase of what the game is, we may need to take the demo down for some time to update it.

What languages are included?

Alongside English, we currently have Chinese, Russian, Japanese and Brazilian Portuguese in the demo. We have more languages in the main game. We will not be updating the demo with new languages.

I played the demo and my language has untranslated characters and sections, is that fixed in the main game?

Yes, for all languages.

Where can I get help / support for the demo?

Either respond here, make a new thread or join us on Discord.

Also the options menu feels very messy; none of the icons match what they do. The camera settings is a pencil, the language settings are gears while the speech bubbles that should be language or used for... key bindings??
there is a discord channel where we have reported bugs

Hi hi, loving the demo, it's really fun! But I got a bit stuck because of a potential glitch.
I was diving for a power box(?) and picked it up, but it never appeared in my inventory and I haven't been able to find any more of them. It's not in my mailbox either, if it somehow had ended up there. Will see if it shows up after restart or maybe after a storm? But I thought I'd mention it anyhow.
if your inventory was full at the time, then it should end up in the mail box on the docks. I may take until the next day, but rest assured you should find more later if you keep savaging
Thanks for explaining this! I got something from Lesley after giving her a blue berry, but my inventory was full. I'll go check out the mailbox! (Maybe the first time there's something in the mailbox, upon returning to the docks, have Anchor come up, wave at you like they do, and mention you have "mail" waiting?
Anyway, LOVE the demo! I have it on Steam Deck. I've played it in both handheld and desktop mode with a controller. The only thing that doesn't seem to work is I'm not hearing the chattering sound during dialog sequences. (I noticed the audio difference while watching a stream.)

Im not sure where to leave bug reports/feedback for very minor issues.

In the very first text, the splash screen for the demo, it states "Wet your appetite". It should be "Whet"
no its still spelled Wet, as it should be.
i love this game it makes me think of more harvest moon then sims or anything. cannot wait till full release. although i think the stamina should last little longer we run out way to fast.

Actual whet is accent English.( it would had depth to specific characters).

Sadly most game players( and people in general) are only taught oxford or american English.
they don't know how to type speak or write in script/ accent English.

which is how video game text should be written to give a non speaking character depth
basic game maker courses level 101...

there is a reason why English is called the hardest language to learn.

There is 240 forms( most of which can be found in any type of typing program.)
628 dialects( aka pronunciation syntax / accents), 6 forms of grammar and 3 spelling styles.

on top of the facts
most people are only taught oxford or american.
(which is not at all including any of the modern forms of ainglish..)
spelling doesn't always match the pronunciation...
multiple pronouncing ways depending on regional dialect.
not all of the forms are data based or have very ridged structure.
English doesn't translate correctly in many other languages.

Even google writers don't know all these forms and facts.
(and most search results will only educate you in oxford or american)
(most people forget english poetry is a form of english and
doesn't follow normal spelling grammar rules but it has no typin' data base.

no one should ever expect a game dev to keep 100% perfect oxford or american english...

if the text is suppeer important to a quest. or game play then yes its should be at least legible and readable.:portiahiggins::raft_bruce:
wow, was not expecting a grammar lesson, and there is even a great deal of differences between Canadian English and American English. For example Color vrs. Colour, which even the spell check on my laptop does not recognize.
I actually grew up reading a lot of old English, I only will read the King James Bible, and as a child my two favorite books were Robin Hood in old English and Tarzan, also written by an English man.
So we don't know which version of English the devs are using in all the dialogue, maybe some of the critters are meant to be from different regions. I would hate to be the person in charge of translating into all the different languages being requested, as I never even learned to speak French when living in Quebec for 15 years.

Now if they did voice overs for some of the critters and they had different regional accents, that would be cool.

I am really happy to be able to play the demo in Japanese.:Like_It:
It is unfortunate that Sami and Pokee's conversations were still in English (but I have played the game so many times that I remember what they are saying ×D)
It would be great if their dialogue is also in Japanese when Early Access is launched.

The Japanese is understandable enough, but some of the text overlaps and is unreadable (e.g., when displaying instructions).

I look forward to seeing you in a week!

I realize early access is just around the corner, but I've run into a shortage of materials that has made gameplay nearly impossible past a certain point. There was one storm to restock materials early on in the demo, but it's been sunny ever since then, and I'm limited to whatever I can scavenge from flotsam, my plants, and whatever items villagers occasionally choose to sell me. Renard has failed to restock / change his inventory despite what he says.

I'm looking forward to the early access release, but in the meantime, I can't really progress with what I've got.

there is only one storm in the demo, and Renard wont restock until EA. However you can continue to play, farm and salvage. YOu will occasionally find salvage under water, but not much more to do until EA except farming, so stock up on food items and cook. We are all in the same "wait" chair.
