i get black screen. I turned off steam community, and now i can do the configuration... but ive tried pretty much all the combinations of resouloutions and options (direct 3d off, compatibility on, direct 3d on, compatibility off, windowed...) and it doesnt go past black screen in any combo ive tried :(. Does anyone get black screen for a bit then it works? maybe 20 seconds isnt long enough?
look at it as u took a gamble like in poker and lost a little money... that's how i'm gonna see this and hope it gets buried in my pile

I had the black screen/failed to initialize errors until I copied the steam.dll from the primary steam installation folder (that is, C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam ) to the game's folder containing Discipl2.exe. Back up the existing dll just in case, of course.

I left the changes I had made to compatibility settings previous to moving the dll, these include winXP sp3, disabled desktop comp. and run as admin.

Config is set to 1024x768, default refresh, fullscreen, none of the D3D/stretch/compat. options enabled. All audio and intro is enabled. Most important, it seems: set your monitor resolution to 1024x768, it's crapping on widescreen. Game is working 100% now.

Oh I'm not mad and i havent given up. I'll play with it on occasion, and keep an eye on here for ideas to try. Its pretty new so... very likely one day soon steam will d/l a patch for me that takes care of it or I'll get it running and post what worked for me. If nothin else, when i upgrade to a different computer or something itll work there or something... thats why i love steam. I bought it, Itll still be there, and I can get back to it.

You can try to run the game directly Discipl2.exe + off steam overlay.
In ConfigEditor.exe 'ON' Stretch to full-screen or Use Direct 3D.
And never enable Game in Win.

AHA!!! this is what worked for me. I disabled steam community, so i could use the editor... then I unchecked both "play sound" and "play music". Game starts right up. Anyone more saavy might can figure out what might cause a black screen with sound on but not with it off... i give them cookie. Well... a pixel cookie... with pixel chocolate chips... and a milk.
